We aim to bring warmth and energy to everything we do.POSITION SUMMARYAs a Mechanic the position requires but is not limited to the maintenance and repair of all fleet vehicles and construction equipment which includes cars, light trucks, medium trucks, heavy trucks, backhoe, dozers, trenching machines, and portable equipment such as welders, generators, and water pumps. It will be necessary to make service calls in the field, in all types of weather, to repair the above-mentioned vehicles and equipment.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProvide routine inspections of vehicles and equipment, inform management of any issues.Assess vehicles and/or machinery to accurately diagnose and repair issues.Maintain and clean garage equipment and tools to ensure they are always kept in a safe and usable condition.Expected to supply adequate mechanic tools, including toolbox, to perform the duties of this position.Must be physically able to lift up to 100 pounds, crawl under vehicles and equipment; and able to work on a concrete floor for 8 hours per day.Excellent time management skills to complete tasks in an efficient manner.Excellent communication skills with internal and external customers.EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCEGeneral High School Diploma required.Graduate of a two-year vocational/technical school in automobile/truck mechanics or have the equivalent military training, preferred, or A minimum of four years’ experience working as a mechanic in a light truck fleet repair shop, independent repair shop, or a dealership repair shop. Experience with maintenance and repair of diesel-powered vehicles preferred.For junior mechanics, one or more years of experience or technical training. For senior mechanics 4 ASE Certifications, required.Valid State Driver’s License required.Willing to obtain a CDL license if required.The normal work hours are 7:00 AM through 3:30 PM, with a thirty (30) minute lunch break, Monday through Friday. The normal work hours may be adjusted per the provisions of Article 4, Section 4.12 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.This position is covered under DOT regulations and Summit Utilities Drug and Alcohol Policy and is, therefore, subject to all terms of the policy, including random selection for drug testing.The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this classification.
