About This Position

JOB SUMMARY
-
Responsible for supporting and directing the activities of Hospital & AHP Coding personnel including maintaining compliance, identifying missed revenue opportunities and monitoring goals and objectives. Develops reports as requested and submits to Chief Financial Officer. Maintains knowledge of current rules and regulations addressing data reporting requirements, coding compliance and MS-DRG and APC grouper methodology; interacts with the departments of finance, billing, information systems and the Medical staff to contribute to hospital data integrity. Responsible for the oversight of the Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) functions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:

Education/Regulatory Requirements:
-
Associate degree in Health Information Technology; RHIT /RHIA certification required; completes annual education requirements.
-
3+ years of supervisory experience with 5 years of med/surg inpatient coding and outpatient coding experience required. Must pass competencies for the position.

Must have technical knowledge of correct coding principals for CPT/HCPCS and modifier selection and UB04 revenue codes.

Skills:
-
Ability to use computer systems for entering and retrieving information.

Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology.

Ability to read and interpret handwriting of hospital and medical staff.

Comprehensive understanding of ICD-9/ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS & CPT-4 coding systems and Medicare payment methodologies.

Position requires close attention to detail, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, ability to meet deadlines and work with frequent interruptions.

Must demonstrate flexibility and be able to function under pressure.

Knowledge of hospital operations, hospital department charge capturing, revenue cycle services and CMS regulations and Charge Description Master functions.
