Job Summary
The Infection Control RN and the Infection Control Coordinator work as an integrated team to ensure all function of the Infection Prevention and Control Program are achieved. This RN position is a support role for the Infection Control Coordinator by assisting with program activities. The Infection Control RN receives specialized training in abstracting, collecting, analyzing and reporting infection related data to reduce incidence of hospital acquired infections for patients and staff. They assist with staff training, clinical rounds and other infection control activities as assigned.

- Assists in surveillance and prevention practices to collect pertinent information concerning patients with community and hospital acquired infections and adverse healthcare associated events
- Reviews laboratory reports including C diff, MRSA, CAUTI, CLABSI and SSIs for data collection, monitoring and timely communication of this information to clinical department leaders
- Primarily performs chart abstraction for hospital acquired infections and reportable diseases, performs data entry and interacts with NHSN to meet CDC’s infectious disease requirements.
- Assists in collection and analyzes of data on HAIs and the success or failure of various internal prevention strategies.
- Contributes to the development, monitoring and evaluation of the Infection Prevention and Control program
- Serves as an infectious disease resource for hospital staff
- Assists with implementation of strategies for response to a confirmed outbreak
- Participates in implementation of Tuberculosis Screening, Employee Vaccination, and Exposure Control plan
- As Directed by the Infection Control Coordinator, conduct rounds on inpatient units for monitoring isolation protocol, device counts, and observation of compliance with infection prevention practices and standards
- Provides community and staff training using a developed training plan as directed by the coordinator
- Participate in interdisciplinary Infection Control Committee and supports other department’s Infection control plans
- Assists with employee health activities to include but not limited to performing tuberculin skin testing and immunizations. Travels offsite during influenza vaccination season to administer vaccinations
- Assists with employee drug test screening as needed.
Computer skills with word processing, excel, power point, data and information presentation
Reads and comprehends written instructions, able to interpret medical orders and correspondence
Effectively uses the electronic medical record to obtain needed patient and infection information
Ability to prioritize, organize and carry out work assignment, self-directed with instructions from Coordinator
Professional knowledge of health care services and hospital processes
Working well with groups and independently
