Position Description:
POSITION GOALS
Reporting to the ELC Manager, the PT ESL Instructor functions as an onsite teacher for adult learners. Develops and delivers personalized and data driven instruction in the blended learning environment through creating and leading meaningful classroom activities and integrating valuable experience to facilitate students learning goals.
This position is part-time, non-exempt.

Open positions in following areas: Judson ISD, Karnes City, Poteet, La Vernia, Fredericksburg, Comal ISD, South San ISD, Applewhite Correctional Center, Harlandale ISD; some opportunities in San Antonio area
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
Bachelors Degree.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • 1 year of teaching experience with adult learners
  • Experience teaching and/or tutoring in class and online.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Highly Skilled in interpersonal relationships with students and adults in leadership, management, teaching, counseling and/or other professional positions.
  • Ability to present an image of professionalism in appearance and attitude.
  • Ability to develop rapport with students.
  • Knowledge of how to develop students motivation and how to build their self-efficacy
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, coordinate workload, handle multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of information and data gathered from work with students.
  • Ability to deal with diverse situations and people.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and those contacted in the course of work.
  • Willingness to learn new things and eagerness to acquire new skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist the department leadership in planning a program of study that meets the adult learners needs in an academic setting.
Instruction for English as a second language
  • Use a variety of instructional methods and techniques in the virtual or in-person classroom, including individual tutoring, to achieve required benchmarks and present material in an engaging and effective manner to meet the students needs.
  • Create lesson plans for English as a Second Language that align with the TX AEL Content Standards 3.0 for college and career bound students for in person and online classes.
  • Contextualize curriculum to include workforce/workplace skills and industry-related material, if applicable.
  • Demonstrate ability to teach online via Zoom video conferencing, Google Classroom, and use Remind App.
  • Implement distance learning curriculum according to program guidelines to maximize student goal attainment and progress.
  • Build rapport with students in person/online, initiate conversation with and engage students in tutoring, goal setting, career planning, and other activities to build a positive working relationship.
  • Use effective retention strategies such as relationship building, regular student contact, goal setting activities, etc. so that students persist in the program.
  • Using current andragogy theories, create active online/onsite learning environments by using textbooks, multimedia, online resources, and supplemental materials rooted in ESL teaching methodologies.

Classroom and Student Administration
  • Provide students with contact information on who to contact regarding technical issues.
  • Enter student data such as contact information, case notes, or test results into a database.
  • Complete student ITEC plans in a timely manner.
  • Maintain contact with students through phone calls, email, and texting platforms.
  • Assist with student registration, orientation, and assessment administration (pre-tests and post-tests), and follow-up as needed.

General responsibilities
  • Commit to modeling agency core values with all members of the team, students, and volunteers.
  • Complete required training sessions scheduled by Coordinator or Director, and annually completing 15 hours minimum professional development courses.
  • Willingness to learn and assist with instructional material development
  • Some travel required
  • Follow agency, state, and federal policies, procedures, and laws.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Schedule: Flexible and variable including some evenings and/or Saturdays and not to exceed 30 hours per week at various locations in and around San Antonio and surrounding counties. However, the hours are subject to change to ensure deliverables are made. Course planning time set by direct supervisor.

Hourly Compensation Range: $17.00 - $23.00 per hour
*This position is grant funded. Although the grant is expected to end, additional funding might be obtained to extend the grant beyond the end date. If that would occur, your employment under the grant might also be extended. However, all employment is considered to be at will and may be terminated by you or the agency at any time regardless of the end date of the grant.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical requirements include visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Subject to sitting, standing, bending, twisting, carrying/lifting course materials, and walking to perform the essential functions.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
Must possess a valid Class C Texas Drivers License or obtain a valid Class C Texas Drivers License within thirty (30) days after becoming a resident of the State of Texas.
