About This Position
Performs installations, maintenance and repairs of automated meter reading systems, supporting reliable data collection through independent and collaborative work.
Assists in the installation, servicing and repair of automated meter reading equipment in the field. Operates data-collection equipment used for telemetry, data transmission, and storage throughout the automated meter reading (AMR) network. Conducts routine field checks to ensure monitoring equipment is functioning properly. Performs equipment inspections to identify basic issues or malfunctions and assist in collecting field data for reports and analysis. Aids in maintaining and troubleshooting monitoring devices that interface with EAA programs. Works under moderate supervision. Work is occasionally directed in several aspects, is moderately independent and performed within established policies, practices, processes, and procedures. Uses initiative and discretion in carrying out recurring assignments. Works collaboratively with others. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
High School/GED plus three years of technical training or relevant experience in electronics, telemetry or environmental monitoring preferred or Associates degree plus one year of experience. Knowledge and experience in electronic data acquisition. Knowledge of mechanical and electronic equipment operations and troubleshooting. Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical professionals. Ability to exercise a high degree of flexibility in scheduling daily activities. Ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment, and responsibility. Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
Job performance may require listening, seeing, sitting, talking, reaching, pulling; frequent lifting, balancing, carrying, grasping, handling of items and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; moderate to heavy walking in rough terrain requiring a high level of physical exertion. Job is performed during regular workday hours, includes frequent outdoor fieldwork and moderate levels of stress. Job performance may consist of up to 25% work in an office environment and 75% work outside that includes exposure to extremes in weather, rough terrain such as brush, rocks, and hills, and may also include exposure to hazardous chemicals, insects, and snakes. Performance may also include work around construction, well drilling or other similar work sites.
