Seasonal Laborer at City of Fort Bragg (CA)

Performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the construction, repair, installation and maintenance of City public works facilities, buildings and grounds and streets.

This position is authorized for up to 1,000 in a fiscal year. The position is part-time, approximately 20 hours a week. This position does not have benefits other than limited sick.

Removes and replaces road material such as asphalt.
Excavates and exposes sewer lines and mains.
Paints crosswalks, curbs, stop and center lines.
Cleans storm drain basins.
Cleans and maintains equipment used in the course of work.
Performs landscape and street maintenance tasks such as pulling and cutting weeds, mowing, trimming, and watering plants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Constant exposure to sun, walking on uneven surfaces, bending, kneeling, squatting, twisting, exposure to airborne dust and loud noises; frequent climbing of ladders of up to 12' above ground, driving, working on slippery surfaces, working with toxic substances; occasional lifting of items weighing up to 75 pounds, lifting above shoulders, ability to work in confined and cramped spaces; repetitive hand motion; hear verbal instructions; climb in/out of ditches; climbing flights of stairs; turn valves, lift and carry pipes; dig ditches; small motor skills. Work in and around raw sewage and wastewater, raw sewage waste fumes and sewer gases. Driving a motor vehicle; receiving oral instructions; reading written instructions.

Knowledge of:

Construction and maintenance materials, procedures and equipment with particular reference to street and landscape operations.
Methods, tools, techniques and supplies used in street and park landscape maintenance work.
Safe work practices.

Ability to:

Perform semi-skilled and skilled maintenance tasks in the construction, maintenance and repair of public works.
Operate trucks and moderately heavy power-driven equipment when assigned.
Use the hand and power tools and other equipment required in general grounds maintenance work.
Perform heavy manual labor and lift heavy objects.
Read and write at the level required for successful job performance.
Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Work cooperatively with others.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/ EDUCATION:
Any combination of training and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT, AND TOOLS:
Shovel; weed eater, rake, paint brush and roller, paint sprayer, templates, motor vehicle, lawn mower.
