Mapper/GIS Specialist at Shelby County – Columbiana, Alabama

Work involves the interpretation of records such as legal documents, surveys and related information and plotting of information onto a computerized Geographic Information System (GIS). This position assists in maintaining all Cadastral, GIS Features and files and assists the public, property owners, engineers, surveyors, Titles Companies and attorneys in related matters.

• Sorts deeds into splits and name change categories.
• Plots brief legal descriptions of deeds as related to digitized mapping.
• Digitizes subdivision plats.
• Learn how to create legal descriptions for property records.
• Assists property owners, attorneys and the public with mapping related projects and questions.
• Performs record research as necessary.
• Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner.
• Performs all other duties as assigned by supervision.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• High school diploma (GED) or equivalent.
• One or more years experience with ESRI software.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

• Associates Degree or certification in a related field.
• Two years of technical training related to mapping or equivalent experience in GIS.
• One or more years experience editing in ArcGIS Pro.
• Willing to obtain Alabama Certified Mapper designation.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is sedentary in nature involving sitting, occasional standing, walking, and lifting less than 10 pounds.
