ABOUT iQ ACADEMY, LOS ANGELES:
iQ Academy, Los Angeles delivers online/virtual home based instruction to K-12 students in California. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to complete approximately 4-6 hours of coursework daily and log attendance. We use the K-12, inc. curriculum as the basis for instruction and you will teach via the Engageli platform. Teachers instruct students online daily both synchronously and asynchronously.
HOURS AND SALARY INFORMATION:
Full time Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:00pm. You are not allowed to have another job during these contracted hours.

Full Time: $23.25/hour

We do participate in CalPERS. Please contact your CalPERS counselor about how employment with iQ Academy, Los Angeles may affect your personal STRS account. Only full time employees are offered health, dental, and vision benefits. Benefits information is only given out upon offer. We do provide training for all programs and we have a great staff to serve as your support system.

Job Title: Instructional Paraprofessional Educator
Reports To: Director, Special Education
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Department: Special Education

Overview:
Virtual schools are new models in public education. They look both backward to what we know works well in educating children, and forward to see how technology can help us implement these strategies with children. Virtual school paraeducators are part of a pioneering effort.
Summary:
Under the direction of an administrator, and in cooperation with a credentialed education specialist, this position performs duties necessary to assist in providing specialized academic instruction to students in our special education program.
Responsibilities
• Maintain high expectations for all students and a deep belief that all students can learn

• Facilitates small group SAI live instruction as implementation of students’ IEP plans under the supervision of an administrator and in cooperation with a credentialed education specialist

• Participates in preparation of learning materials

• Assist education specialist in monitoring and collecting student performance data and other IEP input

• Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials and/or skills introduced and outlined by teaching staff

• Provide support for students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in educational activities

• When requested, serves as a resource person to various teams (e.g. IEP, Title 1, ESL)

• Attend necessary training sessions associated with individual students as required by student IEP (e.g. medical procedures, IEP meetings, etc.)

• Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback

• Model a personal code of ethics aligned with IQ’s policies

• Maintains necessary records

• Uses direction from special education administrative team to carry out duties

• Other duties as assigned
Requirements

Have at least one of the following:

1. Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (60+ semester units)

2. Have an associate’s or higher degree, or

3. Have a passing score on the California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST)

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; and experience using a student information system and/or other type of database software. Experience moderating web meetings (Blackboard Collaborate, Webinar, Webex) for small and large groups

This position is a virtual position working from a home office. Must have ability to travel throughout the school year within and between assigned geographic areas to support students, attend regularly scheduled meetings, proctor state exams and participate in school activities and orientations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
