As part of a deliberate growth strategy, Forge is expanding its presence in the retail and multifamily construction sectors and is hiring a Vice President of Business Development to lead that effort.
About the role
The VP of Business Development will own the development and execution of Forge’s growth strategy in the service retail and hospitality verticals, with a focus on projects in the $1M-$15M range. This is a hunter role: the right candidate will build a pipeline from the ground up, cultivate relationships with owners, developers, brokers, architects, and franchise groups, and convert those relationships into awarded work.
Working directly with the President, this leader will represent Forge in the market, shape pursuit strategy, and partner with preconstruction and operations to ensure a seamless handoff from win to build.
What you'll do
- Develop and execute a market-entry and growth strategy for retail and multifamily projects across Forge’s Texas markets.
- Build, manage, and continuously grow a qualified pipeline of opportunities in the target verticals, with a focus on the $1M-$15M project range.
- Identify, pursue, and secure new client relationships with owners, developers, franchise operators, brokers, architects, and design partners.
- Lead pursuit strategy from lead generation through proposal, presentation, and award; coordinate go/no-go decisions with the President.
- Partner with the Preconstruction team to align estimates, proposals, and qualifications with client expectations.
- Represent Forge at industry events, associations, and networking functions to build brand presence in the retail and hospitality space.
- Maintain accurate pipeline, forecast, and activity reporting; provide regular updates to the President and leadership.
- Negotiate terms in coordination with leadership and support a clean transition of awarded work to operations.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and emerging opportunities in the target sectors.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of business development, sales, or client-facing experience in commercial construction, with a track record of winning work.
- Demonstrated success building a pipeline and closing projects in the retail and/or multifamily sectors.
- Established network of owner, developer, broker, and design relationships in Texas (San Antonio, DFW, and/or surrounding metros).
- Strong understanding of the general contracting delivery process, including preconstruction, estimating, and project execution.
- Excellent relationship-building, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Self-directed, results-oriented, and comfortable operating as the tip of the spear in a growth role.
- Willingness to travel regularly across Texas markets.
- Valid driver’s license.
