Job Description
The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily production activities in a plastics extrusion manufacturing environment, leading a team to meet production goals. This role involves coordinating operators, monitoring production lines, ensuring safety and quality standards are met, and supporting efficient workflow. The Production Supervisor plays a hands-on role on the floor, helping with troubleshooting, training, and maintaining production performance.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Shift Supervision & Leadership
- Supervise and support production operators and material handlers during designated shift.
- Ensure work assignments are understood and executed according to the production plan.
- Provide coaching, guidance, and feedback to employees.
- Assist in training employes on equipment, procedures, and safety.
- Sets an example for employees.
- Escalate issues to the appropriate member of management when needed.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all safety procedures are followed.
- Participate in safety inspections and correct unsafe conditions.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas.
Production Execution
- Oversee extrusion lines and downstream equipment.
- Ensure machines are properly set up and adjusted.
- Support changeovers, startups, and shutdowns.
- Monitor output for accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain accurate inventory levels and coordinate with supply chain teams to ensure timely delivery of materials.
- Identify areas for process improvement and lead initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
Quality Assurance
- Verify products meet specifications.
- Perform in-process inspections.
- Report and investigate defects.
- Coordinate with the Quality team.
Troubleshooting & Support
- Assist operators with process or equipment issues.
- Coordinate maintenance and repair of equipment to minimize downtime.
- Make basic equipment adjustments.
Administrative Duties
- Record production data, scrap, downtime, and labor.
- Update shift logs and communicate issues.
- Provide input on employee performance.
- Monitor timekeeping to ensure employees’ timecards are accurate.
- Return all documents and respond to requests and emails from management in a timely manner and by the deadlines set forth.
- Communicate regularly with their team to ensure proper information is documented.
Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:- Directly supervises anywhere from 1-25 employees within the production department.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Under the direction and guidance of HR, responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 year’s of experience as a supervisor in a manufacturing environment.
- Computer skills required:
- Microsoft Office 365 including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
- Other skills required:
- Strong supervisory, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- In-depth knowledge of manufacturing equipment and processes.
- Understanding of quality control standards and safety regulations.
- Ability to analyze production metrics and generate reports.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate across all levels of the organization.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to adapt to the needs of the organization and employees.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
- Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Proficiency in production management software and ERP systems
- Extrusion manufacturing experience.

This position will be located in a production shop floor environment and may be required to work 1st, 2nd, 3rd or other designated shift hours. Overtime may also be required based on business conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is moderate with occasional loud noise. Frequently required to talk, hear, walk, sit, and stand. Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl. Continually works near moving mechanical parts and may occasionally be exposed to fumes, airborne particles or toxic chemicals. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
