Job Description
Position Summary
Greater Jamaica Development Corporation (GJDC) is seeking a dynamic and relationship-driven Business Services Manager to support the growth and sustainability of businesses throughout Southern Queens County. This position serves as the primary advisor and resource connector for local businesses by providing one-on-one technical assistance, facilitating access to capital and government incentive programs, supporting business development, and strengthening relationships with key public and private sector partners.
The Industrial Business Services Manager will oversee GJDC's business retention and expansion initiatives, manage business support and reporting requirements, and serve as a trusted resource to entrepreneurs and established industrial businesses navigating financing, workforce, real estate, procurement, and operational challenges. The position also plays a key role in identifying emerging economic trends, advocating for local businesses, and promoting programs that provide equitable economic growth throughout the district.
Essential Responsibilities
Industrial Business Advising & Technical Assistance
• Serve as the primary point of contact for businesses and respond to requests for business and industrial development assistance on an as needed basis through referrals or technical assistance seeking technical assistance and economic development services.
• Provide individualized business counseling related to business planning, financing, government incentives, commercial leasing, procurement opportunities, workforce needs, and operational growth.
• Promote NYC Department of Small Business Services programs and services to industrial and transportation businesses.
• Market and educate industrial and transportation companies on accessing City, State and Federal incentives that lower the cost of training, relocating, expanding, hiring and renovating.
• Assist businesses with navigating City, State, and Federal programs and incentives.
• Track client outcomes and maintain accurate case management records.
Access to Capital & Financial Services
• Educate businesses on available financing options, including traditional lending, alternative financing, microloans, revolving loan funds, and grant opportunities.
• Assess financing readiness by reviewing financial documents and identifying capital needs.
• Assist businesses with loan packaging and preparation of financing applications.
• Support GJDC's Revolving Loan Fund and other capital access initiatives as assigned.
Business Outreach & Partnership Development
• Develop relationships with local businesses, chambers of commerce, commercial property owners, and community organizations.
• Conduct outreach to identify business needs and increase awareness of GJDC programs and services.
• Represent GJDC at community meetings, networking events, and business forums.
• Foster strategic partnerships that strengthen the local business ecosystem and support neighborhood revitalization.
Program & Contract Management
• Assist in managing business services contracts, including deliverables required by the NYC Department of Small Business Services and other funders.
• Ensure accurate data collection, reporting, and compliance with contract requirements.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
• Maintain CRM databases and case management systems.
• Collaborate across departments to connect businesses with workforce development, commercial revitalization, MWBE, and entrepreneurship programs.
Workshops, Events & Resource Development
• Participate in business workshops, networking events, technical assistance seminars, and informational sessions.
• Promote business participation in procurement, supplier diversity, workforce, and MWBE initiatives.
Research & Economic Development
• Monitor economic trends affecting businesses in Southern Queens.
• Develop reports, success stories, and impact summaries.
• Support advocacy initiatives that strengthen the regional business climate.
Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Public Administration, Economic Development, Urban Planning, Finance, Hospitality, or a related field.
• Minimum of two years of experience in business services, economic development, small business advising, community development, or program management.
• Experience working directly with entrepreneurs and small businesses.
• Knowledge of business financing, lending practices, and public incentive programs.
• Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and project management abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CRM systems, and data management platforms.
Preferred
• Master’s degree in business administration, Public Administration, Economic Development, Urban Planning, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Two or more years of experience in business advising/ support, workforce development, small business development, economic development, or program management.
• Familiarity with NYC Department of Small Business Services programs.
• Experience working with economic revitalization initiatives.
• Bilingual proficiency (Spanish, Bengali, Haitian Creole, or another language commonly spoken in Queens) is a plus.
