We are looking for a Senior Research Assistant to join Dr. Juan Piantino’s lab within the Papé Family Pediatric Research Institute, Neuroscience Section. Our research focuses on the biological mechanisms linking sleep disturbances to cognitive function and recovery from brain injury in humans. Specifically, we focus on the glymphatic pathway as a mediator between poor sleep and recovery from concussion in young individuals. Our lab has pioneered the use of non-invasive neuroimaging techniques to assess glymphatic function in humans, in healthy conditions and following traumatic brain injury. We currently have funding from the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense to conduct large longitudinal studies on sleep and concussion in young adults.

Responsibilities include managing study operations; coordinating participant recruitment, enrollment, and follow-up; preparing and maintaining IRB and regulatory documentation; performing data collection, entry, quality assurance, and neuroimaging analysis; and supporting manuscript, abstract, grant, and protocol development; and running and analyzing biomarker data. The position contributes to the planning, design, and modification of research studies and collaborates with investigators, clinicians, and multidisciplinary research teams to support laboratory and grant objectives.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in relevant field with at least some classes in Neuroscience AND 1 years of relevant experience OR Equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Phlebotomy experience.
  • Experience working with collegiate athletes and sub-concussive head impacts.
  • Independent study coordinating, recruiting and consenting for multiple research studies.
  • Comfortable learning new software.
  • Ability to work and problem solve independently.
  • Willingness to learn and work with research subjects.
  • Strong independent writing and speaking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in neuroimaging research (MRI acquisition and processing).
  • Familiarity with imaging processing software (FSL, FreeSurfer, AFNI, MATLAB).
  • Sleep data collection and analysis.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing biomarker data.
  • Understanding of biostatistical models applied to longitudinal data analysis.
  • Proficiency in statistical software packages (e.g., Stata) and neuroimaging software (e.g., FreeSurfer).
