Senior Technical Artist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Technical Artist based in Canada.

This role offers an opportunity to join a creative and technically driven environment where art and engineering come together to build high-quality interactive experiences.
The Senior Technical Artist will act as a key bridge between creative teams and technical disciplines, enabling efficient workflows and visually impressive results.
You will design and optimize pipelines, tools, shaders, and production processes that empower artists while ensuring strong performance across platforms.
Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will help solve complex technical challenges and improve content creation workflows.
This position is ideal for an experienced game industry professional passionate about real-time rendering, Unreal Engine, and innovation.
You will contribute directly to the quality, scalability, and technical excellence of ambitious gaming projects while enjoying a flexible remote work environment.

Accountabilities:

The Senior Technical Artist will be responsible for improving the connection between artistic vision and technical execution by creating scalable solutions, optimizing performance, and supporting production teams throughout the development lifecycle. Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing, implementing, and optimizing assets such as textures, shaders, models, and other visual content.
  • Building and improving production pipelines and workflows that increase efficiency for art teams.
  • Developing custom tools, automation systems, and editor extensions using Unreal Engine and digital content creation (DCC) applications such as Maya and Houdini.
  • Acting as a technical partner between Art, Engineering, Design, and Production teams to ensure successful implementation of creative goals.
  • Evaluating new technologies, workflows, and Unreal Engine features to support project requirements and production improvements.
  • Supporting artists with technical troubleshooting, implementation guidance, and performance optimization.
  • Collaborating with rendering and gameplay engineers to enhance visual features and technical workflows.
  • Ensuring art content is optimized for multiplayer experiences and target platforms.
  • Identifying and resolving performance issues related to rendering, memory usage, streaming, shaders, and content budgets.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of technical standards, processes, and development practices.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced technical art professional with strong knowledge of game development pipelines, real-time rendering, and optimization techniques. Required qualifications and skills include:

  • 5+ years of professional experience as a Technical Artist within the gaming industry.
  • Experience shipping at least one AAA or high-quality AA game title on PC and/or console platforms.
  • Strong programming knowledge, preferably with HLSL, C++, Python, or equivalent scripting languages.
  • Experience developing and supporting character art pipelines, shaders, rigs, or related character workflows.
  • Advanced knowledge of Unreal Engine 5, including Blueprints, Materials, Niagara, asset management, and performance optimization workflows.
  • Experience creating and maintaining custom tools and pipeline solutions for Unreal Engine, Maya, Houdini, or similar DCC applications.
  • Strong understanding of Physically Based Rendering (PBR), shader development, and modern real-time rendering techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of performance profiling, debugging, and optimization strategies for game engines.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage complex technical challenges.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with both technical and creative teams.

Nice-to-have qualifications include:

  • Experience working on multiplayer game titles.
  • Experience with procedural content generation workflows and Houdini Engine.
