Location: Princeton, New Jersey

Salary Range or Pay Grade: 67,000-77,000
Description

The Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences Program at Princeton University in cooperation with NOAA’s Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL) seeks a postdoctoral research associate to develop, analyze, and apply high-resolution ocean-ecosystem hindcasts and predictions with a focus on the Gulf of America, Caribbean, and Southeast coast of the United States. The candidate will use existing numerical model simulations and, as required, generate new predictions to address a range of ocean prediction challenges including, but not limited to, numerical model development and comparison with observations to improve prediction skill; prediction of marine heatwaves, acidification, hypoxia, and compound extreme events on seasonal time scales; and application of forecasts to living marine resource challenges. The candidate will work with Dr. Andrew Ross (andrew.c.ross@noaa.gov) at GFDL, collaborate with an interdisciplinary project team as part of NOAA’s National Ecosystem Assessment Program, and engage with climate and regional ocean model development and application efforts across Princeton, GFDL, and partners.

Qualifications

Candidates must have received a Ph.D. in the earth sciences, applied math, or the physical, biological, or chemical sciences. Candidates with experience using numerical ocean-biogeochemical models and interdisciplinary knowledge of climate dynamics, ocean circulation, and marine ecosystems are particularly encouraged to apply.

Positions at the rank of Postdoctoral Research Associate rank are for one year with the possibility of renewal pending satisfactory performance and continued funding. Princeton is interested in candidates who, through their research, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
