Job Description

This position combines on-site event management with photography and proposal sales at Atlanta History Center's Buckhead campus and the Margaret Mitchell House in Midtown. Responsibilities include overseeing weddings, social celebrations, corporate and nonprofit events, and internal programs, as well as managing photography and proposal inquiries from booking through execution. The role involves year-round indoor and outdoor event management.

Although based in a museum setting, this is a hospitality-focused role rather than a museum, education, or history position. Ideal candidates have experience in weddings, event planning, catering, country clubs, venue operations, or sales, or are pursuing a degree in Hospitality Management, Event Management, or a related field.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review event paperwork, diagrams, and schedules to prepare for and oversee the successful execution of events.
  • Serve as the primary on-site contact for clients, vendors, and event staff, providing excellent service and addressing concerns professionally.
  • Oversee vendor load-in, setup, event activities, breakdown, and cleanup, ensuring compliance with event plans and venue requirements.
  • Maintain a visible, proactive presence throughout events, anticipating needs, resolving challenges, and coordinating with security, housekeeping, sales, and other departments.
  • Manage all photography and proposal inquiries from initial contact through booking, scheduling, and on-site execution.
  • Communicate photography and proposal pricing, policies, and availability; conduct site visits; prepare agreements; coordinate payments; and maintain accurate booking records.
  • Coordinate and oversee photography sessions and proposals, ensuring compliance with approved locations, schedules, and venue policies.
  • Enforce museum policies and safety procedures, including guest conduct, photography, food and beverage, and protection of historic spaces.
  • Assist with event setup, production, breakdown, and other operational needs as necessary.
  • Provide clients and guests with accurate information about museum facilities, exhibits, and history.
  • Complete event checklists, post-event reports, and incident documentation, communicating important updates and concerns to management.
  • Requirements

  • 1–2 years of experience in hospitality, event management, sales, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, resolve conflicts, and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to interpret event diagrams, schedules, and related paperwork.
  • Must have open availability mornings through evenings, including weekends.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to work at both the Buckhead and Midtown locations.
  • Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, approximately 70% of the time.
  • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
  • Background Check Requirements

    • Satisfactory criminal background check.
    • Satisfactory financial background check.
