Job Description
The Admissions Counselor is responsible for recruiting and guiding prospective students—traditional undergraduate, adult, and graduate—through all stages of the admissions process, from inquiry to enrollment. Managing a caseload of 500–600 applicants annually, the counselor communicates regularly through phone, email, text, and other platforms. This position involves conducting campus visits and tours, building relationships with external partners, representing the university at recruitment events, and supporting admissions-related programming. Travel—including 5–7 weeks of overnight recruitment—and occasional evening and weekend work are required. The role is full-time, with a flexible schedule based on the recruitment cycle.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Recruit and counsel prospective students from the traditional undergraduate, adult, and graduate student populations throughout all stages of the admissions funnel (inquiry to enrollment).
• Manage a caseload of approximately 500–600 applicants annually, maintaining consistent and timely communication via phone, email, text messaging, and other electronic platforms.
• Conduct individual campus visits and give campus tours to prospective students and their families.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with high school counselors, community college advisors, teachers, school systems, and other external partners within assigned territories or populations.
• Represent the University at college fairs, community events, and other outreach opportunities; this includes overnight travel for approximately 5–7 weeks annually and frequent local day-travel.
• Support all admissions-related events, including planning, setup, execution, and follow-up for campus visit programs, open houses, orientation events, and special recruitment activities.
• Participate in the office’s Saturday rotation schedule to accommodate prospective student visits and special events.
• This is a full-time, salaried position requiring availability Monday through Friday, with flexibility in daily hours based on recruitment cycles.
• Occasional evening and weekend work is required, particularly during peak recruitment seasons and for key admissions events.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Experience in college admissions or outside sales preferred
• General knowledge of the principles and practices of student enrollment and admissions
• Experience in planning, scheduling, and implementing events, as well as managing and coordinating calendars
