JOB DESCRIPTION: SURGICAL COORDINATOR

JOB SUMMARY

Assists in surgery scheduling, counseling of patients and completion of associated forms and certifications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greet patients in prompt, professional and personable manner.
  • As appropriate, assists in screening patient phone calls or walk-ins and answering patient questions.
  • Schedules all office and hospital surgery with pre-op and post-op follow up appointments. Prepares consent forms for patient signature for specific surgical procedures.
  • Counsel patients regarding surgery and surgical insurance; both in office and by telephone. Initiates financial arrangements for patients when necessary.
  • ASC schedules and paperwork are submitted accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ledgers are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • De-escalate issues regarding upset or dissatisfied patients.
  • Contacts patients and assures their compliance with pre-op orders.
  • Professionally inform patients about co-pays, referral, payment policies and location information.
  • Communicate effectively and demonstrates professionalism with referring doctors.
  • Remain current on staff and physician schedules.
  • Manages and prioritizes multiple tasks.
  • Performs other job-related tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in an ophthalmic practice.
  • Demonstrates high standards of professionalism and ethics.
  • Overall knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience in using Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Exhibits good time management skills.
  • Committed to ongoing learning.
  • Reliability and dependability.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Outlook and Microsoft Office.
  • Flexibility (may require some early mornings and evenings)
