FHIR Implementation Specialist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a FHIR Implementation Specialist based in the United States.

This role sits at the core of modern healthcare interoperability, focusing on the design, implementation, and optimization of FHIR-based data exchange solutions. You will work on transforming complex clinical data into standardized, scalable FHIR resources that enable seamless integration across healthcare systems. The position involves hands-on engineering, API development, and data modeling within large-scale, cloud-based environments. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams in an agile setting to ensure data quality, security, and compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA. Beyond implementation, you will help evolve interoperability frameworks by staying aligned with emerging FHIR standards and best practices. This is a high-impact role where your work directly improves how healthcare data is shared and used across systems serving diverse populations.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead the implementation and evolution of FHIR standards across healthcare data systems to ensure accurate and efficient interoperability
  • Design and manage data ingestion pipelines, transforming clinical data into FHIR-compliant resources through robust ETL processes
  • Develop and maintain data mapping specifications to convert non-FHIR formats (HL7, XML, JSON) into standardized FHIR structures
  • Build and support scalable RESTful API endpoints for secure and efficient healthcare data exchange
  • Implement security controls and compliance measures aligned with HIPAA and other healthcare data privacy regulations
  • Document system architectures, data flows, and transformation logic using tools such as Confluence
  • Participate in agile ceremonies, including PI planning, and contribute to cross-functional delivery efforts
Requirements:
  • 7+ years of experience in healthcare IT, interoperability, or healthcare data integration
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with FHIR standards and healthcare data exchange systems
  • 4+ years of experience in Java development, with additional exposure to Python or Ruby on Rails considered a plus
  • Strong experience building RESTful APIs using object-oriented programming frameworks (e.g., Java/Spring)
  • Deep understanding of healthcare data standards including HL7v2, FHIR, JSON, XML, and clinical terminologies (ICD, SNOMED, CPT/HCPCS, LOINC)
  • Experience working with large-scale clinical datasets, including data cleansing, normalization, and quality improvement
  • Familiarity with concept mapping and interoperability modeling within FHIR resource frameworks
  • Experience working in agile, multidisciplinary teams and engaging with stakeholders in complex environments
  • Strong problem-solving mindset, adaptability, and ability to learn new technologies quickly
  • Must be a US citizen or Permanent Resident and reside in the Continental United States
Benefits:
  • Salary range: $145,000 – $155,000 annually, depending on experience and location
  • Comprehensive health coverage including medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer contributions
  • Paid time off, holidays, and additional leave policies
  • Life insurance and other standard employee benefits
  • Fully remote, US-based work environment with flexibility and autonomy
  • Opportunity to contribute to high-impact government healthcare modernization initiatives
  • Inclusive and collaborative work culture focused on innovation and accessibility
