JOB SUMMARY
The Liberty County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Sanitation Truck Driver within the Solid Waste Department. The Sanitation Truck Driver safely operates commercial sanitation vehicles to collect and transport residential and commercial solid waste, recyclables, and other refuse throughout the community. This position performs manual labor in addition to driving duties, ensuring collections are completed efficiently while providing courteous service to the public. A valid Georgia commercial driver's license (CDL) is required.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Operates various types of vehicles including front-end garbage truck, roll on/roll off truck, knuckle boom truck, pac mac, tractor and bushhog.
- Performs maintenance pre-check on assigned vehicles.
- Services multiple yard dumpsters for commercial customers.
- Pulls cans from county convenience centers. Hauls equipment and recyclables.
- Services polycarts for residential customers. Places furniture and appliances in cans to be crushed. Picks up yard debris.
- Dumps truckload onto transfer pad and cleans out truck.
- Picks up and delivers dumpsters.
- Cleans up around dumpsters and sites.
- Ensures cans are not overfilled.
- Crushes trash in containers.
- Mows fields, as needed.
- Performs related duties.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of county safety policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.
- Knowledge of basic auto mechanics.
- Knowledge of equipment maintenance.
- Skill in operating a variety of heavy equipment.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skill in customer service.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes sense of smell.
- The work is typically performed outdoors occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases or irritating chemicals. Work requires use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- More than one (1) year of related experience preferred.
- Possession of a valid Georgia commercial driver’s license (CDL).
SALARY, SCHEDULE, AND BENEFITS
This is a full-time hourly (non-exempt) position with a pay rate of $22.71/hour ($47,236/year). Normal work hours are Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Additional paid overtime work may be required.
