Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect to lead the architecture and technical direction for our enterprise Outage Reporting & Analytics Platform. This role will serve as the technical leader responsible for designing scalable analytics solutions on the Microsoft Azure ecosystem while guiding a vendor development team through implementation. The ideal candidate is an experienced data platform architect with deep expertise in Azure Databricks, modern cloud data architectures, and enterprise analytics best practices. This is a non-coding leadership role focused on architecture, technical governance, solution design, and delivery oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end solution architecture for the enterprise Outage Reporting & Analytics Platform.
- Provide architectural leadership to a junior offshore/onshore vendor development team, ensuring adherence to enterprise standards and best practices.
- Design scalable, secure, and high-performing data platforms using Azure Databricks and the Microsoft Azure ecosystem.
- Establish and enforce data architecture standards, governance, and reusable design patterns.
- Guide implementation of the Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) to support trusted, analytics-ready data products.
- Partner with business stakeholders, product owners, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Review solution designs, data models, and technical deliverables to ensure quality and alignment with enterprise architecture standards.
- Provide technical leadership during planning, estimation, and release activities.
- Collaborate with reporting and analytics teams to enable effective visualization and business intelligence solutions.
- Identify opportunities to improve platform scalability, performance, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in enterprise data architecture, analytics platforms, or solution architecture.
- Deep experience designing enterprise solutions using Azure Databricks.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure data services and cloud architecture best practices.
- Extensive experience designing modern enterprise data platforms.
- Strong understanding and practical application of the Medallion Architecture.
- Experience architecting data lakes, data warehouses, and modern analytics platforms.
- Experience with Business Intelligence tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
- Proven experience leading technical delivery teams, including vendor or consulting partners.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to influence both technical and business audiences.
- Experience creating architecture diagrams, technical standards, and solution documentation.
- Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, security, and performance optimization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within the Utility, Energy, or Power Generation industry.
- Experience supporting outage management, operational reporting, asset management, or grid analytics initiatives.
- Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks and governance processes.
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
Location: Oak Brook, Illinois (relocation assistance is offered)
