Position Description:

The EOC Coordinator/Academic Advisor, located in Great Bend, will coordinate and provide appropriate services at the Great Bend outreach site and within the EOC target area to assist participants in completing the admissions and financial aid processes in order to increase the number of disadvantaged students completing secondary education and entering post-secondary educational institutions. The CKEOC project serves 1,000 participants per year. The Coordinator & Academic Advisor based in Great Bend is responsible for target area counties: Barton, Ellis, Ellsworth, Graham, Jewell, Lincoln, Mitchell, Ness, Norton, Osborne, Pawnee, Phillips, Pratt, Rice, Rooks, Rush, Russell, Saline, Smith Stafford, Trego counties, and additional EOC target area as assigned. Note: Employment contingent upon continued grant funding. Note: This position is either completely or partially grant funded. Employment is contingent upon continued grant funding.

Position Responsibilities: 5.00% - Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
25.00% -
1. Develop, promote and provide EOC services throughout designated target area.
2. Collaborate with Project Director on community development and changes affecting the educational processes.
3. Network with the community agencies related to services needed by project participants.
4. Collaborate with and provide the Project Director mandated data to report to the US Department of Education.
5. Compile statistical information needed for compliance with Federal and institutional requirements.
6. Assists with ensuring program remains in compliance of meeting required goals and objectives each year.
25.00% - Project Responsibilities:
1. Create and present career and educational workshops to clients from a variety of community and military agencies throughout the target area.
2. Develop networks with PSEI contacts including Financial Aid Officers, Admissions Officers, support services personnel, and others who are critical to participant application, enrollment, and life success.
3. Available to provide EOC services at Great Bend, Hays, and Salina outreach sites.
4. Maintain comprehensive documentation of all contacts with project participants in participant files and in the EOC software program.
5. Attend staff and organizational meetings. Takes, types and distributes minutes when requested.
30.00% - Responsibilities to participants:
1. Select and mentor eligible program participants.
2. Direct participants through Career Exploration software programs and advise academically from result.
3. Research college programs for project participants in their field of choice and provide encouragement in attainment of their goals.
4. Coordinate and accompany participants on campus visits to GED, High School Diploma, and Post-Secondary institutions. .
5. Assist participants to reach the goal of enrollment and attendance at a PSEI.
6. Complete necessary forms related to the student’s participation in CKEOC.
15.00% - Consulting Tasks:
1. Consult with Project Director regarding program goals/objectives primarily related to improving services of project participants and promoting the project.
2. Consult with PSEI contacts to meet participant needs.
3. Consult with community personnel relevant to services available to eligible participants.
4. Consult with area employers, schools, faith communities, service agencies, and others to share information relative to project and participants.

Expectations: Provide quality services to maintain and increase participation in program. Maintain and develop new relationships with entities that will ensure life success for participants. Demonstrate commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice, as well as personal and professional integrity. To assure effective stewardship of GB EOC office ensuring program goals and objectives are met. To support the Project Director in all aspects that affect office operations including staff accountability. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience - Two years to five years of similar or related experience.

1. Knowledge of PSEI matriculation, adult education, admissions, financial aid, and other relevant processes.
2. Knowledge of and skill with project population and their specific needs.
3. Expertise in area of vocational and academic advisement or counseling.
4. Communicates effectively with professional personnel and with participants from populations traditionally underrepresented (ethnic minorities, women, handicapped, learning disabled, and non-traditional students).
5. Strong PC skills, to include spreadsheets and database management.
6. Strong organizational and concentration skills and accurate record keeping skills.
7. Ability to carry out job responsibilities with minimal direct supervision.
8. Preference given to individuals who have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the project's target population.
Education - A Bachelor's degree.
Interpersonal Skills - A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary.
Other Skills - Bachelor's Degree Required; Master's Degree Preferred.
Physical Requirements: Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office or classroom.
Wages/Other:

The salary range for this position is $46,712.18 to $52,000.

Job Advertisement: Barton Community College’s Educational Opportunity Center (TRIO) project seeks applications for a Coordinator/Academic Advisor working out of the Great Bend office. This grant funded, replacement position is responsible for assisting participants in overcoming obstacles to increase the number of disadvantaged students completing secondary education and entering post-secondary educational institutions. This position will require frequent daytime travel to build and maintain relationships with partner agencies as well as weekly trips to local correctional facilities to aid incarcerated individuals with their educational goals. Required qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and valid driver’s license required; Master’s preferred. Previous experience in working with adult populations in a higher education setting; strong written and oral communication skills; demonstrated ability to work productively as part of a team; strong organizational and multitasking skills; and attention to detail. Preferred qualifications include: Experience with vocational and academic advisement/counseling; knowledge of admissions, financial aid, and other related processes and experience working with individuals from disadvantaged populations.
