Job Description
Under the direction of the Director of Food & Nutrition Services, the FNS Coordinator / Education & Training Specialist is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the orientation, education, training, and ongoing competency development of employees within the Food & Nutrition Services Department.
The Food & Nutrition Trainer works closely with the Director, Production Manager, Managers, and Supervisors to promote a smooth transition of new employees into the department and to support the continued education and development of current employees.
The trainer conducts new-hire orientation, departmental in-service training, position-specific training, and retraining as needed. Responsibilities include educating employees on departmental policies and procedures, sanitation, workplace safety, food safety, proper food handling and storage, cooking procedures, equipment operation and care, temperature monitoring, infection prevention practices, and applicable federal, state, local, and regulatory requirements.
The trainer assists with maintaining training records, competency documentation, reports, logs, and statistical data. This position also assists departmental leadership in maintaining readiness and compliance with Joint Commission requirements and other applicable federal, state, local, and organizational standards.
The trainer serves as a positive role model and resource for FNS employees and may assist with operational needs, staffing coverage, and other departmental responsibilities as assigned by the Director and/or Production Manager.
Education: GED preferred/High School Diploma Required
Additional Education Requirements:
Additional education or training in food service, hospitality, healthcare, education, training or a related field preferred
Additional Certification Details
• Food safety certification preferred or required within a timeframe established by the department.
• Knowledge of HACCP principles and food safety guidelines preferred.
• A valid driver's license is required only when assigned duties require operation of a hospital or departmental vehicle
When driving responsibilities are assigned, the employee must meet all applicable CRMC driver eligibility requirements.
Additional Experience Requirements
• Minimum of three (3) years of food service experience required.
• Healthcare food service experience preferred.
• Previous experience training, orienting, coaching, or mentoring employees preferred.
• Must have a strong working knowledge of Food & Nutrition Services operations and departmental workflows.
• Familiarity with CRMC/FNS operational systems is preferred, including the Intranet, Gem Serve, SABA, Health Stream, scheduling systems, email, and employee self-service systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Proficient with basic computer systems and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Willing and able to learn additional software and hospital systems as needed.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to provide clear, consistent, and effective instruction to employees with different learning styles and experience levels.
• Ability to communicate tactfully, professionally, and courteously with employees, patients, visitors, vendors, and other hospital
departments.
