Compensation: Starting at $17.46/hour based on education, experience, certification, and internal equity

What You'll Do as an Admission & Scheduling Representative

  • Schedule outpatient and inpatient appointments while ensuring accuracy and efficiency

  • Complete patient admissions and obtain required demographic, insurance, and pre-certification information

  • Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and authorization requirements with payers and provider offices

  • Coordinate pre-admission certifications and communicate with physician offices to obtain required documentation

  • Provide exceptional customer service while assisting patients and families with scheduling and registration questions

  • Maintain accurate patient records while protecting confidentiality and complying with HIPAA requirements

  • Collaborate with clinical departments, providers, and healthcare teams to support efficient patient flow

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, families, providers, and coworkers

  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, regulatory standards, and departmental procedures

  • Promote a welcoming, organized, and patient-centered experience that reflects UNC Health Appalachian's mission, vision, and values

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required

Experience

  • Three (3) to six (6) months of experience in a medical office, healthcare, or administrative setting preferred

Licensure / Certification

  • None required

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to communicate professionally with patients, families, providers, and healthcare staff

  • Proficiency with computers, typing, scheduling systems, and Microsoft Office applications

  • Knowledge of insurance verification, patient registration, and medical office procedures preferred

  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all patient interactions

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged sitting while performing computer and telephone-based work

  • Occasional standing and walking throughout the workday

  • Frequent keyboard use and manual dexterity

  • Occasional bending, twisting, reaching, and light lifting

  • Adequate visual acuity to review patient records, insurance information, and electronic documentation

Working Conditions

  • Indoor, climate-controlled healthcare office environment

  • Frequent interaction with patients, families, providers, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams

  • Exposure to healthcare-related hazards, including bloodborne pathogens and infectious materials, in accordance with standard precautions

  • Frequent computer and telephone use throughout the workday

  • Schedule may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on departmental needs

  • Adherence to organizational policies, patient privacy standards, and safety protocols
