We are seeking a Senior Database Engineer to support a critical remediation program for a large-scale production platform serving a global financial information environment.
This role focuses on strengthening MySQL database infrastructure through security improvements, compliance initiatives, and operational enhancements.
You will work with complex systems, identifying vulnerabilities, performing upgrades, and ensuring database reliability in production.
The position requires strong technical ownership, the ability to quickly understand unfamiliar environments, and a methodical approach to solving challenges.
You will collaborate with engineering teams to manage dependencies, validate changes, and improve platform resilience.

The Senior Database Engineer will be responsible for improving and securing database environments while supporting modernization and compliance initiatives. The role requires hands-on expertise, autonomy, and strong collaboration with application and platform teams to deliver safe and effective improvements.
- Identify and remediate security vulnerabilities across the MySQL database layer.
- Perform database upgrades and implement compliance hardening measures.
- Strengthen database security controls related to configuration, access management, and operational data.
- Analyze existing database environments, identify risks, and execute remediation plans.
- Collaborate with application and platform teams to manage database dependencies during system changes and re-platforming efforts.
- Support testing, validation, and deployment activities to ensure database changes are stable and safe in production.
- Document technical findings, risks, remediation activities, and operational procedures clearly for engineering teams.
- Apply database best practices to improve reliability, maintainability, and security.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience managing production database environments, with strong expertise in MySQL security, upgrades, and operational best practices. This professional should be comfortable working independently, navigating complex systems, and communicating technical risks effectively.
- 5+ years of hands-on database engineering experience in production environments, with a strong focus on MySQL.
- Proven experience with database security remediation, including vulnerability assessments, hardening, and compliance controls.
- Experience performing major database upgrades in live operational environments with minimal disruption.
- Strong ability to understand unfamiliar database architectures, investigate issues, and implement effective solutions.
- Solid knowledge of database access controls, security configurations, and operational best practices.
- Experience collaborating with application development and platform engineering teams on database dependencies.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document risks and technical solutions clearly.
- Ability to work autonomously in a remote environment and deliver against defined technical objectives.
- Fixed-term salaried contract for 3 months.
