EHS and Facilities Coordinator

The EHS and Facilities Coordinator is a combined role that carries end-to-end responsibility for two functions at Alpha Resources: environmental health and safety, and facilities repair and planning. Time is split roughly 50/50 between the two, across all three facilities.

On the safety side, this individual is the sole owner with no supporting staff, personally handling program strategy, day-to-day execution, and hands-on work. On the facilities side, the role directs the operational effort but is not alone: it coordinates with an existing Maintenance Technician on repairs and preventive maintenance and draws on the support of the machining department for fabrication and specialized in-house work. The ideal candidate is a self-directed, hands-on generalist who is equally comfortable writing a compliance program, directing repair work on the floor, and scoping a facility project with internal resources and outside contractors.

Reporting Structure

For both the safety and facilities sides of the role, this position reports to site leadership across three locations

Environmental Health & Safety (˜50%)

Operational Safety

• Own and maintain all safety programs, policies, and procedures.
• Conduct routine safety inspections of eyewash stations, ventilation systems, fire extinguishers, and ladders.
• Perform hazard assessments across operational areas and drive corrective actions to closure.
• Maintain emergency planning programs, equipment, and policies, and keep evacuation maps current and published.
• Facilitate the Safety Committee, including scheduling, training, and meeting coordination.
• Coordinate emergency response and serve as the primary point of contact during incidents.
• Lead incident investigations and maintain safety, health, and environmental records.

Industrial Hygiene

• Manage non-product Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure they remain accurate and accessible.
• Coordinate MIOSHA consultations, including air and noise monitoring.
• Monitor workplace exposure conditions and recommend controls to reduce risk.

EHS Supply Management

• Manage PPE requests, ordering, and inventory for the organization.
• Organize and maintain the PPE supply closet, reordering as needed.
• Stock and maintain first aid kit supplies across all facility locations.
• Schedule and track fire extinguisher inspections and maintenance.

Personnel Training

• Deliver new hire onboarding safety training.
• Track and administer annual safety retraining requirements.
• Coordinate and deliver forklift (Powered Industrial Vehicle) safety training and certification.

Facilities Repair & Planning (˜50%)

Building Systems & Maintenance

• Direct preventive and corrective maintenance for building systems across all three facilities, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and compressed air.
• Coordinate daily with the Maintenance Technician to assign, prioritize, and complete repairs and general upkeep; handle hands-on fixes directly and escalate larger jobs to the Technician, the machining department, or outside vendors as appropriate.
• Leverage the machining department for in-house fabrication, part production, and specialized repair work, coordinating priorities and timelines with department leadership.
• Build and manage a preventive maintenance schedule for facility equipment and building systems, tracking completion and history.
• Receive, prioritize, and close out facility work orders, keeping requesters informed on status and timelines.
• Maintain critical spare parts, tools, and maintenance supplies, reordering as needed.

Vendor & Contractor Coordination

• Source, schedule, and oversee outside contractors and service vendors for work beyond the capacity of the Maintenance Technician and machining department.
• Obtain and compare quotes, verify scope and quality of completed work, and confirm vendor compliance with safety requirements while on site.
• Manage service contracts and track recurring inspections and certifications for building systems and equipment.

Facility Planning & Projects

• Plan and manage facility projects end to end, including moves, reconfigurations, equipment installations, and building improvements.
• Develop scopes, budgets, and timelines, and report progress to leadership.
• Support space and layout planning to meet operational needs across the three sites.
• Track facility spend and help forecast maintenance and capital needs in the annual budget cycle.

Compliance & Grounds

• Ensure facilities meet applicable building, fire, and life-safety codes, and coordinate required inspections.
• Oversee general upkeep of grounds and common areas, including janitorial, waste, and seasonal services.
• Integrate safety considerations directly into facility maintenance, repairs, and planning, leveraging the dual scope of the role.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, environmental science, facilities management, engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience.
• Certifications: OSHA 30 preferred; EHS, industrial hygiene, or facilities/maintenance credentials a plus.
• Experience: 3+ years spanning EHS and facilities, maintenance, or building operations; experience running a safety program independently and coordinating maintenance work across technicians and internal shops strongly preferred.
• Technical Skills: Working knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing) and hands-on repair ability, alongside familiarity with SDS management, PPE and inventory tracking, and safety compliance documentation.
• Soft Skills: Highly self-directed and organized, able to prioritize competing safety and facilities demands independently; strong communication and problem-solving skills and comfort engaging staff, vendors, and leadership at all levels.
