This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an AI Governance Program Director (The Strategist) based in India.

This role offers the opportunity to shape enterprise AI governance strategies and build responsible AI frameworks at scale.
You will lead the design of governance models that balance innovation, compliance, security, and business objectives.
The position focuses on creating continuous monitoring systems, AI risk frameworks, and transparent accountability processes.
You will collaborate with executive leaders, technical teams, and governance stakeholders to ensure AI solutions are deployed responsibly.

Accountabilities:

The AI Governance Program Director will be responsible for designing, implementing, and evolving AI governance strategies that support responsible AI adoption across enterprise environments. Key responsibilities include:

  • Define and execute AI governance maturity frameworks, transitioning organizations from manual compliance processes to automated continuous control monitoring.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive AI governance roadmaps aligned with business goals, regulatory expectations, and responsible AI principles.
  • Establish and manage AI asset registries covering internal AI models, third-party large language models (LLMs), and unmanaged or “shadow AI” usage across the organization.
  • Build governance structures that integrate AI risk management into the complete development lifecycle through a proactive “shift-left” approach.
  • Create executive-level dashboards and reporting frameworks that translate complex AI risk metrics into clear insights for leadership and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Lead AI ethics and governance committees, facilitating decision-making around high-risk AI deployments.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to business and technology teams on AI risk, compliance, transparency, and accountability.
  • Partner with engineering teams to evaluate AI systems, including considerations around model drift, data lineage, performance, and reliability.
  • Drive the adoption of best practices for responsible AI implementation and continuous governance improvement.
  • Support client-facing AI governance initiatives by providing expertise, frameworks, and strategic guidance.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is a senior governance and risk leader with strong experience in enterprise risk management and a deep understanding of emerging AI governance practices. Required qualifications and skills include:

  • 10+ years of experience in Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC), IT Audit, Enterprise Risk Management, or related disciplines.
  • 3+ years of experience leading AI governance, responsible AI, AI risk management, or similar initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of AI governance principles, risk frameworks, compliance requirements, and operational controls.
  • Ability to collaborate with technical teams and discuss concepts such as model drift, hyperparameter tuning, AI lifecycle management, and data lineage.
  • Experience designing governance frameworks, policies, maturity models, and control monitoring processes.
  • Strong executive communication skills with the ability to present complex risk topics to leadership teams and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives involving business, technology, security, compliance, and legal teams.
  • Master’s degree in Law, Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Relevant professional certifications such as CGEIT, CRISC, IAPP Certified AI Governance Professional (AIGP), or equivalent credentials are preferred.
  • Strong strategic thinking, leadership abilities, and ability to operate in a rapidly evolving technology environment.
