Job Description

Position Summary

The Commercial Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all day-to-day commercial moving operations to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and profitably. This role provides leadership across commercial field operations, warehouse coordination, dispatch, scheduling, and customer execution, ensuring alignment between sales commitments and operational delivery.

The Commercial Operations Manager is accountable for labor performance, operational planning, inventory readiness, safety compliance, documentation accuracy, and daily execution standards across all commercial projects.

Reporting Structure

Reports To: Senior Vice President (Regional Branches)

Supervises: Commercial Field Staff

Works Closely With: Sales Leadership, Business Development, Fleet & Safety, Finance, and Corporate Shared Services

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Commercial Operations Leadership

  • Oversee all commercial moving operations from project kickoff through completion.

  • Ensure commercial projects are properly staffed, scheduled, and equipped.

  • Align operational execution with sales scope, pricing, and client expectations.

  • Serve as escalation point for complex operational, client, or field issues.

Planning, Scheduling & Execution

  • Lead daily and weekly operational planning for commercial projects.

  • Coordinate closely with Dispatch and Account Managers to ensure job accuracy and readiness.

  • Review work orders, scopes, schedules, and special requirements prior to execution.

  • Monitor job performance in real time and adjust resources as needed.

Warehouse, Inventory & Equipment Oversight

  • Partner with the Commercial Warehouse Manager to ensure warehouse readiness and organization.

  • Ensure inventory, equipment, and materials are available and properly tracked for commercial jobs.

  • Review inventory audits, discrepancies, and corrective actions.

Labor Management & Timesheet Accountability

  • Oversee labor deployment, crew assignments, and performance expectations.

  • Ensure all commercial field staff and warehouse personnel complete daily timesheets accurately and on time.

  • Review and approve timesheets prior to payroll submission.

  • Address attendance, performance, and timekeeping issues promptly.

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Enforce all safety policies, OSHA requirements, and company standards.

  • Review incidents, damages, and claims related to commercial operations.

  • Partner with Safety and Fleet teams to reduce risk and improve compliance.

Financial & Performance Accountability

  • Manage labor ratios, overtime exposure, and job profitability.

  • Review job costing, margin performance, and operational KPIs.

  • Identify inefficiencies and implement corrective actions.

Leadership, Communication & Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop commercial operations staff.

  • Set clear expectations and hold teams accountable for performance.

  • Communicate regularly with leadership regarding operational performance and challenges.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in commercial moving, logistics, or operations management.

  • Proven leadership experience managing warehouse, field operations, or project execution teams.

  • Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing large-scale or multi-day commercial projects.

  • Knowledge of job costing, labor ratios, and operational KPIs.

  • Familiarity with dispatch, warehouse, and project management systems.

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Combination of office, warehouse, and field presence.

  • May require early mornings, evenings, weekends, or travel based on project demands.

  • High level of accountability and decision-making responsibility.
