About the Role
The Bulk Materials Loader Operator is primarily responsible for the safe, efficient, and production-focused operation of a Cat 900 series wheel loader to load aggregate materials such as stone, sand, gravel, and other bulk commodities into customer trucks. This role plays a critical part in maintaining loading accuracy, cycle-time efficiency, and product quality in a fast-paced port and terminal environment. The ideal candidate is highly experienced in wheel loader operation, safety-conscious, mechanically aware, and comfortable working around truck traffic and bulk stockpiles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely operate a Cat 900 series wheel loader to load bulk aggregates (stone, sand, gravel, etc.) into dump trucks and tractor-trailers.
- Ensure accurate loading in accordance with ticketed weights and customer specifications.
- Maintain consistent production pace to minimize truck wait times and maximize throughput.
- Build, maintain, and manage aggregate stockpiles for safe and efficient loading.
- Perform daily pre-shift and post-shift equipment inspections; document and report mechanical or safety issues.
- Monitor material quality and report contamination, moisture issues, or inconsistencies.
- Maintain clean loading areas, ramps, travel paths, and stockpile zones.
- Communicate clearly with scale house personnel, truck drivers, and supervisors to coordinate safe and efficient operations.
- Follow all OSHA, company, and port safety protocols at all times.
- Conduct minor preventative maintenance including fueling, greasing, fluid checks, and cleaning.
- Immediately report any damage to vehicles, equipment, property, or safety hazards.
- Assist with yard organization, site housekeeping, and other terminal operations as needed.
- Operate equipment in a safe, smooth, and controlled manner to prevent spillage, overloading, or equipment damage.
- Perform manual labor when necessary to support operational needs.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience operating a wheel loader in an aggregate, quarry, industrial, construction, or port setting.
- Demonstrated ability to load trucks safely and efficiently.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Strong understanding of heavy equipment safety and preventative maintenance practices.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience loading bulk aggregates in a production or high-volume environment.
- Experience working in a port, terminal, or maritime environment.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) or ability to obtain one.
- Familiarity with truck scale operations and load ticketing processes.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent sitting while operating equipment for extended periods.
- Ability to climb ladders and access heavy equipment safely.
- Frequent exposure to outdoor conditions including heat, cold, rain, and dust.
- Ability to wear required PPE including hard hat, safety boots, gloves, eye protection, and high-visibility clothing.
Work Environment
- Outdoor port and bulk material yard environment.
- Exposure to dust, noise, vibration, heavy truck traffic, and moving equipment.
- Fast-paced, safety-sensitive operation requiring constant awareness of surroundings.
- May involve extended hours or weekend operations based on shipping schedules and material demand.
