Job Description

AMPAM is a leading Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) contractor serving large-scale multifamily and commercial projects across California. With 1,500 employees across multiple business units, we are committed to delivering quality, safety, and excellence in every project. In June 2026, AMPAM acquired Coastal Fire & Integration Systems (“Coastal”), a San Diego-area provider of fire protection, low-voltage, and life safety systems. This role will join the AMPAM team as a part of our Coastal Fire & Integration Systems acquisition.

Brief Description: While the Inside Wireman/Installer is installing the wire and Homerun feeders on a project, the Foreman will be inspecting their work and addressing any issues with the work directly with the Wireman/Installer. The Foreman looks for problems that may occur during the construction process that relate to the scope of work he/she is responsible for. Typical work that the Foreman would be responsible for is installing the network of low voltage cabling that is used for video, voice and data, Fire Alarm or other low voltage signaling.

While most installations are in buildings that are partially or fully enclosed to protect from sun, wind and rain; these installations are often installed before air conditioning, heat or permanent light fixtures have been installed in the buildings. Many jobs, however, are in existing buildings or offices; and some work may be outside under varying weather conditions.

Backbone voice and data cables are routed between the entrance facility, where communications signals enter a building: to equipment rooms and telephone rooms. Voice and data horizontal cables are routed between telephone rooms or equipment rooms and individual workstations throughout the building. Equipment rooms often contain energized equipment such as hubs, file servers, electrical panels or telephone switches.

In some cases these devices are configured and connected to equipment that currently serves the building and must not be interrupted as a result of work performed by unqualified workers or those only partially trained. Any question of how a system goes together or works must be immediately brought to the attention of the foreman.

The Foreman oversees and participates in the installation voice, data, video and Fire Devices at the time of trim in their designated locations as identified on the approved plans/layouts. In addition, they install punch down blocks and cross connects in telephone rooms when required. These may be wall mounted or rack mounted, and must be grouped and identified according to specific installation standards. Whether the work is in new construction or in existing office or manufacturing space, the craftsman takes pride in the work he or she has and can performed. All testing required to insure the installation was done properly must be done to avoid return trips to do repairs or perform quality control work that should have already been completed.

Job Description: Many of the work processes of the Foreman are listed below. There are many systems that utilize low voltage voice, data, video and Fire Devices. Not all Foremen work on all systems. However, a properly trained Foreman can work on a variety of types of systems, including systems for voice, data, video and Fire Devices.
