The Governance Associate is responsible for providing support for programs and associated activities within the Governance Office of the American College of Cardiology (ACC). This position works closely with staff supporting the College’s member governance structure and partners with member leaders who serve on committees and councils. This position provides staffing support to the Governance Committee, Nominating Committee, Awards Committee, Research Fellowship Awards Committee, Young Investigator Awards Committee and aligned work groups, which includes setting up meetings, managing agendas and minutes, and coordinating deliverables. This position also supports the candidate application process for open member committee and council positions and is a key staff administrator with the ACC’s Awards Program, with responsibility for overall project management and application or nomination coordination, as well as facilitating selection processes with the relevant member committees. Confidentiality and professionalism are of utmost importance. Multi-tasking, attention to detail, and efficiency are also key aspects of this role.
Responsibilities
- Provide support to multiple committees and aligned work groups (e.g., Governance Committee, Awards Committee) staffed by the Governance Office. This includes the following:
- Scheduling meetings for both members and internal staff.
- Preparing, managing, and distributing meeting agendas and materials in advance of meetings.
- Capturing meeting minutes and action items clearly and accurately during fast-paced meetings.
- Coordinating and tracking deliverables and follow-up items to completion.
- Maintain centralized documentation of the ACC Awards Program.
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures documentation for the administration of the Awards Program and individual awards.
- Develop and manage timelines, ensuring milestones are reached according to schedule, for various awards.
- Collaborate with communications and marketing colleagues to support achieving application goals for awards programs, committee applications, etc.
- Support the application process for over 500 candidates for open member committee and council positions, ensuring compliance with organizational governance policy and processes.
- Learn and accurately share policy and processes with staff and applicants.
- Manage the awards and committee’s email inboxes, ensuring inquiries are addressed quickly and efficiently.
- Create or update work groups and aligned members within Salesforce.
- Develop and export reports as requested from the committee application portal and/or Salesforce.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of two years of experience in a role requiring aligned knowledge and skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills that support teaming with a broad array of stakeholders, including members and all levels of internal colleagues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including grammar, spelling, copyediting, and proofreading.
- Demonstrated ability to organize work, be attentive to details, and deliver accurate work that influences the success of a project.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to learning and seeking support, as needed.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple tasks simultaneously, to set priorities, and to meet established deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize under tight timelines to solve problems, while maintaining composure and a positive attitude with stakeholders.
- Ability to follow through on assignments and duties in a timely and complete manner.
- Ability to carry out responsibilities independently and to be self-motivated and flexible.
- Ability and requirement to keep information and discussions confidential.
- Proven quick learning capabilities for new software and technologies.
- Proficiency navigating Salesforce CRM (or a comparable customer relationship management system), including the ability to develop and export reports.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite of Products (Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience coordinating application, nomination, or awards processes.
- Requirement to periodically work outside of standard work hours to meet deadlines, participate in meetings and respond to time sensitive communications.
- Minimal travel may be required in support of job responsibilities (e.g., attend Annual Meeting).
- Experience in the healthcare industry or a nonprofit or membership association, preferred.

Salary Range: 65,000-75,000
