Mission Statement
The Roarin’ Buzzsaws exist to achieve the following objectives

• Actively support and encourage the SFA Lumberjack and Ladyjack Basketball and Women’s Volleyball programs
• Represent Stephen F. Austin State University in a first-class manner at all times
• Serve as musical ambassadors for SFA at athletic, university, and civic functions, both home and away
• Accomplish the above objectives while pursuing the highest standards of musicianship and sportsmanship
• Provide its members with an enjoyable social/musical outlet while achieving all the above objectives.

The following rules and expectations are solely designed to enable us to achieve the objectives listed above.

Attendance
A performer is on time when they are in place with all necessary materials and equipment and ready to play their instrument at the designated report time. Attendance issues will be fined per the details outlined in the “Fines” section of this contract. However, if a performer has a conflict that is discussed with and approved by the Directors prior to the performance, no fine will be assessed.

If a performer must miss a service for which they are scheduled, they must secure a sub. Acquiring a sub is the performer’s responsibility. The procedure for securing a sub is as follows:

1. Check both the sub list and other band’s membership roster
2. Start at the top and go down the list until you can secure a sub
3. You must use a person on either the sub list or from the other pep band 4. Once your sub is secured, fill out the Sub Notification Form on Band app (listed as a Notice at the top of the page)
4. If you miss a game or other performance without a sub, as outlined in the Fines section below. If you miss a second game without a sub, you will be assessed an additional fine and may be dismissed from the ensemble.

Music
Music will be accessed digitally through the Band app. It is the player’s responsibility to supply a charged device for reading the music during the game/service. An E-flip may be purchased through the Buzzsaws if needed. It is highly encouraged that music be downloaded from Band app and stored locally on the performer’s device to avoid issues with streaming the music via Band app during a service.

Attire (Subject to change)
The Roarin’ Buzzsaws uniform consists of black pants (no jeans or leggings), black belt, long black socks, black shoes, and the official Roarin’ Buzzsaws polo. Shirts must be tucked in at all times. Additional attire may be allowed for specific service based on event themes. Travel Guidelines Travel guidelines will be distributed in close proximity to off-campus events.

NOTE: The Western Athletic Conference tournament occurs in March during Spring Break with the Men’s and Women’s NCAA Tournaments occurring during the following weeks. By being a member of the Roarin’ Buzzsaws, you have made a commitment to play during these tournaments if assigned. Failure to attend the tournaments if assigned without Director approval will affect your audition results for the following season.
This is a student position responsible for assisting in the operations and activities of a department or a departmental project, program, or function.

QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University. Must sign up and audition for a position with instrument with the Director of the Roarin' Buzzsaws.

No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Provides office assistance to the department by assisting staff in routine clerical duties and responsibilities.
2. Provides assistance in answering phone calls, routing incoming calls, taking messages, greeting visitors, and directing visitors to appropriate staff member.
3. Assists in file and records maintenance.
4. Assists in the preparation and implementation of departmental project/program activities.
5. Provides general information and/or training regarding project/program.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

1. Knowledge of general office and clerical procedures and concepts.
2. Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records and files.
3. Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
4. Ability to understand and follow instructions.

A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.

Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
