About the role

As the Safety & Health Specialist, you will support the implementation and continuous improvement of occupational safety and industrial hygiene programs at Aalo Atomics’ Idaho Falls’ locations including compliance with relevant federal, state and local regulations (e.g., NRC, DOE, OSHA), developing robust safety processes, and fostering a strong culture of safety across the organization. . This role is ideal for a safety and health professional who are eager to grow in a fast-paced, highly technical environment and contribute to building a strong culture of safety from the ground up.

You will work closely with engineering, operations, and facilities teams to help identify hazards, support compliance efforts, conduct workplace assessments, and assist with exposure monitoring and risk reduction activities across Aalo environments.

What you'll do
  • Support day-to-day implementation of occupational safety and health programs across site operations.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections, workplace assessments, and hazard observations in office, laboratory, shop, and operational environments.
  • Assist with incident reporting, investigations, corrective action tracking, and follow-up.
  • Partner with employees and managers to identify hazards and support practical corrective and preventive actions.
  • Help develop, maintain, and improve safety procedures, training materials, and documentation.
  • Assist in delivering training on core safety topics such as hazard communication, PPE, emergency response, lockout/tagout, and chemical safety.
  • Support industrial hygiene activities, including exposure assessments and monitoring for both chemical and physical hazards such as airborne contaminants, noise, heat stress, ergonomics, and ventilation performance.
  • Maintain records related to inspections, training, exposure monitoring, and compliance activities.
  • Support reviews of new materials, tools, and processes to help identify occupational safety and health risks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote a proactive, positive, and practical safety culture.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
  • experience in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, EHS, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and DOE regulations and basic occupational safety principles.
  • Familiarity with workplace inspections, hazard assessments, incident investigations, or safety compliance activities.
  • Interest in or exposure to industrial hygiene concepts such as exposure monitoring, chemical safety, noise, ergonomics, or respiratory protection.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work onsite in Idaho Falls, ID.

Preferred Experience

  • Internship, co-op, or professional experience in manufacturing, construction, energy, defense, or other technical environments.
  • Professional certifications or progress toward certifications such as ASP, CSP, CIH track, or related credentials.
  • Experience supporting safety training, inspections, audits, or corrective action programs.
  • Familiarity with chemical hygiene, hazard communication, PPE programs, or occupational exposure controls.
  • Experience in a startup, fast-growing, or hands-on operational environment.
  • Interest in working in advanced energy, nuclear technology, or other highly regulated industries.
