Critical Care Paramedic in Clear Creek County, Colorado at County of Clear Creek

• Under the direction of the EMS Captains, this position responds to emergency calls and performs tasks supporting Clear Creek EMS operations.
• Ambulance Service Administration
• Assist with all Emergency Medical Services (EMS) activities, including daily activities such as equipment repair, replacement, maintenance, and acquisition; training; personnel; ALS/Critical Care equipment and supply maintenance.
• Assist with preparing operational plans and grants, as directed by an EMS Captain.
• Assist with the timely and accurate processing of plans, grants, and other reports.
• Liaison with other emergency service organizations, the community, and local governments.
• Attends staff meetings. Attends other meetings as necessary.
• Participates in weekly training to maintain Critical Care paramedic-level clinical proficiency.
• Assist with EMS certification requirements, vaccinations, and testing.
• Assist with the instruction and/or coordination of agency and community education and training and attend mandatory training.
• Assist with Community Outreach activities.
• Assist with state and federal regulation compliance issues.
• Participate in and help with Quality Improvement Program reviews.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Hourly – Average 56 hours worked per week. Work under the 48/96 schedule or equivalent (approximately 5-6 forty-eight hour shifts per month) with mandatory overtime (varies by week)—some duty schedule flexibility required.
• Perform in the capacity of an EMS Captain when needed.
• Emergency Medical Response
• Respond to emergency calls as needed within the Clear Creek Emergency Services District.
• Respond for mutual aid per mutual aid agreements. Utilizes additional resources such as air medical, law enforcement, fire departments, search and rescue, and CDOT.
• Provide critical care level emergency medical care to the sick and injured.
• Responds often in remote and austere environments using technical skills such as low-angle rope rescue and swift-water shore support.
• Responds via alternate response vehicles/methods, including hiking, snowmobile, UTV, snowcat, etc., in the backcountry setting. The response environment is often potentially hazardous, including avalanche areas, rock slide areas, backcountry rescues, and high-traffic highway environments.
• Follow all regulations identified in the County Personnel Policies and Departmental Standard Operating Guidelines.
• Work to promote a team-oriented environment with all members and other agencies by demonstrating an ability to work with others.
• Implement an Incident Command System in appropriate emergencies.
• Operates clinically utilizing extended care protocols for all patients.
• Care for and maintain equipment.
• Have a working knowledge of ambulance contents & equipment.
• Maintain ambulance readiness.
• Report and document problems on appropriate forms.
• Maintain an appropriate level of physical fitness.
• Maintain certifications required by the State of Colorado, Physician Advisor, and CCEMS.
• Complete operational chores, reports, and other duties by the end of the shift.
• Maintain eligibility to participate in Medicare and state health care programs pursuant to the US Social Security Act or as otherwise provided by law, including Office of Inspector General regulations, and report any action suspending or terminating eligibility immediately to the EMS Captains.
• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION

• GED or High School Diploma
• Colorado State Paramedic Certification
• BLS, BLS Instructor, ACLS, PALS
• ICS 100, 200, 700, 800
• Critical Care Endorsement- Flight Paramedic Certification or Critical Care Paramedic Certification
• CEVO, EVOS, or EVOC

• Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries and diseases. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Colorado Motor Vehicle Drivers License – without restriction or revocation
• Must be 21 years of age or older
• Must be eligible for supervision by a Physician Advisor
• Must pass a background check: Criminal and Traffic
• Conviction of a crime will not be an absolute bar to employment
• Must not be excluded from participation in Medicare and state health care programs as provided in the US Social Security Act, 42 USCA § 1320a-7, or as otherwise provided by law, at the time of hire and at all times thereafter.
• Required legal authorization to work such as United States citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States

SUPERVISORY:

Serves as a guide or lead; however, may supervise when directed to do so by higher authority.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Administrative: Works in an office environment. Essential functions include oral comprehension, written comprehension, memorization, and mathematical reasoning. Employees must be able to sit for long periods, grasp, push, pull, and lift and carry 10 to 30 pounds. Able to operate a variety of office equipment. Clear vision at 20 inches or less and up to 20 feet or more; use of corrective eyewear is acceptable. Paramedic: Burdensome physical demands, including lifting of patients. Must be able to frequently lift and carry at least 50% of 250 lb. load (patient & stretcher) and medium to heavy weight equipment. Essential functions include frequent walking, bending, crouching, squatting, prolonged periods of standing, pushing and pulling of patients and equipment.

Additionally, occasional sitting, climbing, running, kneeling, and crawling may be required. Must remain alert during 48-hour shifts, including driving at any time during a change. Must have adequate hearing to assess lung sounds and vital signs in loud environments. Vision must be sufficient for legal driving day or night. Must possess the manual dexterity required to perform all of the medical treatment skills required of this position with little or no assistance.
