As a Staff Software Engineer, you will take ownership of core backend systems, driving improvements in performance, reliability, and architecture. You will solve complex engineering challenges, contribute to technical strategy, and help maintain a robust platform used by a large developer community.
- Analyze, optimize, and improve the performance of core execution engines within a large Python-based codebase.
- Identify and resolve complex system-level issues involving Linux environments, concurrency, memory management, networking, and database interactions.
- Architect and implement improvements to adapter frameworks that connect the platform with various databases and data ecosystems.
- Lead technical design discussions and contribute to architectural decisions that ensure scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Own critical distributed systems, troubleshoot production issues, and participate in on-call rotations to maintain platform availability.
- Develop high-quality backend solutions following strong engineering practices, testing standards, and scalable design principles.
- Mentor engineers, provide technical guidance, and review contributions from internal teams and the open-source community.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable solutions through iterative and effective development practices.
- Contribute to the evolution of developer-focused tooling and infrastructure capabilities.
The ideal candidate is a highly experienced backend engineer with strong systems thinking, debugging expertise, and a passion for building reliable infrastructure. You should be comfortable working on ambiguous technical problems and making impactful architectural decisions.
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience focused on backend systems in production environments.
- Strong backend engineering expertise with advanced proficiency in Python.
- Deep understanding of software systems, including Linux processes, memory management, file systems, and performance troubleshooting.
- Strong knowledge of database internals, including query execution, storage systems, indexing strategies, and transaction management.
- Ability to approach problems using first-principles thinking and systematic debugging methods.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
- Strong ownership mindset and ability to balance technical excellence with delivery speed.
- Experience with data warehousing, data engineering, or analytics engineering is preferred.
- Professional experience with Go or Rust is a plus.
- Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source projects is highly valued.
- Familiarity with developer tooling, compilers, interpreters, or performance analysis tools such as perf or strace is beneficial.
