Coalition Director

Asian Health Services, founded in 1974, provides medical, dental, and behavioral health services to more than 50,000 patients. Our approach to well-being focuses on “whole patient health” for all. Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the CEO and President, the Coalition Director plays a central role in driving the strategic operations, event execution, policy research oversight, and project management for a statewide health coalition. This position is responsible for leading, coordinating and implementing initiatives and projects for the statewide coalition; ensures member organizations work towards shared policy, programming and systems change goals. The Director serves as the central point of coordination among coalition members ensuring collaborative initiatives, statewide pilot projects, and strategic priorities advance effectively and achieve measurable results. The Director will also facilitate coalition communications; organize statewide initiatives, projects, workshops, events, briefings, coordinate legal and research projects, and lead the implementation and project management of grant projects and initiatives.

Essential Job Functions

Coalition Leadership & Member Engagement

  1. Serve as the primary coordinator for the statewide coalition and foster strong collaboration among member organizations.
  2. Build and maintain trusted relationships with coalition members and external partners.
  3. Develop strategies to increase member engagement, participation and collaboration
  4. Support coalition governance and provide staff support to leadership committees and advisory groups.
  5. Ensure timely communication of coalition activities, opportunities and accomplishments.

Coalition Support & Convenings:

  1. Plan, schedule, and execute member webinars and briefings in partnership with external consultants and internal team members.
  2. Coordinate member communications, project updates, and implement communication strategies and hold member webinars (e.g., Comms focus, Media focus) and potential media briefings.
  3. Coordinate webinars addressing key challenges and cultivating opportunities.
  4. Coordinate monthly taskforce meetings in collaboration with coalition Steering Committee and leadership
  5. Build and maintain a visual framework/workplan to track tasks, responsibilities, and timelines for coalition initiatives and projects. Plan and oversee statewide convenings, workshops, policy briefings, and other events in collaboration with coalition leadership
  6. Coordinate speakers, facilitators, contractors, communications and participant engagement
  7. Develop educational programming that supports coalition priorities and member needs.
  8. Cultivate partnerships with government agencies, foundations, and community partners and identify opportunities for strategic partnerships that advance coalition goals.

Strategic Initiative and Project Management

  1. Direct and support interns and team members on key policy and research projects.
  2. Coordinate with legal and policy consultants to ensure timely delivery of key outcomes,
  3. Research and compile state/county statistics for key coalition topics and areas.
  4. Lead the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of statewide pilot projects and strategic initiatives
  5. Develop project plans, timelines, deliverables and accountability structures, and execute and manage contracts, scopes of work among coalition members.
  6. Coordinate cross-taskforce, coalition member teams as needed to ensure initiatives remain on schedule and achieve intended outcomes.
  7. Monitor project performance and prepare reports demonstrating outcomes and lessons learned.
  8. Identify opportunities to scale successful pilots.
  9. Establish and maintain a regular meeting cadence with member leads for progress tracking, alignment, technical assistance, and milestone reviews.
  10. Design a visual pilot project platform outlining overarching goals, guiding principles, implementation phases, milestones, and shared data collection expectations for all grantees.
  11. Develop standardized tools and templates to support member leads.


Other

  1. Develop reports, presentations, briefing materials and other coalition resources
  2. Assist in preparing grant proposals, reports to funders and sustainability strategies
  3. Develop metrics to measure coalition effectiveness and initiative outcomes
General Agency/AHS Duties
  • Fosters an environment that promotes trust and cooperation among clients and staff.
  • Proven experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects, setting workplans, tracking deliverables, and producing visual project tracking frameworks.
  • Experience facilitating coalitions, working with Steering Committees, coordinating with external consultants, and engaging philanthropic foundations.
  • Understanding of health access, legal landscapes (e.g., Public Charge, Medi-Cal/Medicaid), language access, and emerging technology/AI equity issues.
  • Ability to design focus group tools, synthesize qualitative community feedback, and write clear, high-level policy and project reports
  • Comfortable managing vendor/grantee contracts, administrative documentation, and intern workflows.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in public health, social work, health administration or related field
  • 5 years’ experience working in a Health Care or Public Health setting lead position or handling progressive administrative responsibility required or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in an Asian language with high proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree (M.A.) preferred
  • Valid California Driver’s License, insurance, and ability to travel as required to perform duties.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, with intermediate to advanced level competency in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other AHS supervisors and managers with a focus on customer service and quality of care, exemplifying the core values and mission of the organization, always exercising utmost discretion, diplomacy and tact inpatient/staff interactions.
  • Excellent communication skills at the level necessary for understanding patients and provider or supervisors' instructions, and for accurately documenting patients' medical information. Ability to effectively communicate with the patient population and staff while demonstrating a high degree of diplomacy and tact.
  • Basic working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Easy facility and adaptability to working with computers and software applications.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to train and guide staff in the performance of their duties.
  • Position requires moderate physical activity such as sitting, traveling, walking, driving, bending, lifting, and computer usage.
  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends; demonstrates flexibility in regards to job duties and assignments.
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a high-stress and fast-moving environment.
  • Culturally sensitive and demonstrated ability and effectiveness in working with ethnically diverse populations.
  • Strong analytical, accounting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to achieve common goals and communicate within different levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge and experience with cost and fund accounting.
  • Ability to multi-task, meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage time, interpersonal relationships, resources and information.
  • Strong planning, problem-solving, and organization skills with high attention to detail.
  • Belief in the organizational mission and the ability to articulate this vision to our constituency, partners, funders, and the general community.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of “Universal Precautions,” demonstrates professionalism at all times.
