As Senior Director, Technology Product and UX, you will set the vision and lead the teams that build digital experiences connecting patients and providers to Veracyte testing by enabling insights and laboratory workflows on Veracytes multi-modal data including whole transcriptome and whole genome assays across the cancer care continuum. You will play a key role in our enterprise product development process by crafting both a roadmap for technology capabilities and clear product requirements for agile development, partnering closely with software engineering, PMO, and commercial marketing leadership to delight internal and external customers and serve our patients and providers. Reporting to the Chief Development and Technology officer, this role will own the suite of enterprise capabilities and services that span end-to-end product development. The position will be hybrid in San Diego or South San Francisco. We are also open to remote for the ideal candidate.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the combined Technical Product Management and UX organization.
- Build, coach, and retain a high-performing Product and UX team; define roles, career paths, hiring plans, and development expectations.
- Define and own the multi-quarter product strategy, business case, and roadmap for Veracytes core technology platforms.
- Align product planning to enterprise needs, ensuring shared technology capabilities support multiple clinical product launches and business growth.
- Establish processes that turn strategy and discovery into clear product requirements for agile development, including PRDs, epics, user stories, and design mocks.
- Lead agile product delivery across the portfolio, including outcome-based planning, backlog management, dependency alignment, and iterative delivery informed by data.
- Lead and scale UX design and research, including discovery, journey mapping, information architecture, prototyping, usability testing, and accessibility.
- Partner with laboratory leaders and technical teams to align experiences with lab workflows, specimen lifecycle, and results systems.
- Advance scientific discovery by designing AI-native data systems and products that support bioinformatics, data science, and clinical development.
- Champion quality by design in a regulated environment, partnering with Quality/Regulatory, Security, and Privacy to ensure risk-based, audit-ready delivery.
- Engage stakeholders early, foster healthy debate, and align teams on decisions that best serve Veracyte and its customers.
- Foster an inclusive, high-trust culture that values difference, respect, kindness, and accountability.
- Pursue excellence with urgency, balancing quality, responsible use of resources, and enjoyment in the work.
- Collaborate effectively across locations and time zones, especially with teams in San Diego and San Francisco.
- 12+ years in product leadership or digital product management, owning strategy, roadmap, and measurable outcomes for customer-facing products.
- 8+ years of people leadership, including managing managers and leading multidisciplinary Product and UX teams.
- Experience defining technology roadmaps and translating them into executable product requirements in an enterprise environment.
- Demonstrated success leading agile product delivery and partnering with engineering to ship iteratively and improve outcomes.
- Experience translating complex operational workflows and data into intuitive user experiences, including lab workflows and results systems.
- Experience delivering products in a regulated medical environment, with knowledge of quality systems, validation, documentation, and risk management.
- Strong cross-functional leadership, with success partnering across Software Development, PMO, IT, Commercial, and Marketing.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical and clinical concepts and build trust across teams.
- A leadership style grounded in empathy, integrity, ownership, and a high bar for product quality and clinical outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience delivering integrated experiences across patient and provider portals, EHRs (e.g., Epic), AWS, and Salesforce.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems, integrations, specimen tracking, and results reporting at scale.
- Strong UX leadership, including building research programs, design systems, and coaching senior designers and researchers.
- Experience designing AI-native data platforms for bioinformatics and data science, including multimodal datasets and governance requirements.
- Experience modernizing legacy platforms or migrating complex workflows while maintaining continuity and data integrity.
- Experience partnering with Quality/Regulatory, Security, Privacy, and IT teams to embed compliance into delivery.
- Ability to define product analytics and experimentation practices appropriate for regulated environments.

For candidates based in our San Diego office, the salary range is $246,000 - $285,000.
For candidates based in our South San Francisco office, the salary range is $275,000 - $317,000.
For candidates working remote (US), the salary range is $235,000 - $272,000.
The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience, skillset, geographic location, industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
