What You’ll Do

As a Radiation Therapist, you will report to the Director, Oncology Services. Responsibilities include optimum planning and treatment of the patient, including accurate simulation and application of ionizing radiation to the patient, in accordance with the instructions of the Radiation Oncologist, and listening and caring for the patient. Monitors and reports patient side-effects.

Radiation Therapist Job Responsibilities:

  • Deliver prescribed radiation therapy by reviewing treatment plans, verifying calculations, and accurately setting treatment parameters.
  • Position patients according to simulation instructions and monitor continuously during treatment to ensure safety and effectiveness.
  • Observe patient condition, identify complications, and escalate concerns to physicians as needed.
  • Perform CT and ultrasound procedures to support treatment planning and daily setup.
  • Assist with specialized treatments, including HDR and pediatric care.
  • Create and use immobilization and beam-directional devices for precise treatment delivery.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, including treatment doses, schedules, and clinical documentation.
  • Participate in quality assurance by conducting equipment checks, assisting with calibration, and ensuring radiation safety compliance.
  • Detect and report equipment issues while adhering to safe operating standards.
  • Educate and support patients, contributing to follow-up care and overall treatment experience.
  • Maintain a clean, organized treatment environment and ensure supplies are stocked.
  • Collaborate with team members and participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental activities.
  • Complete required training, certifications, and continuing education to maintain professional competence.
  • Adhere to organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and safety standards, including use of protective equipment.
  • Remain flexible to work additional shifts, overtime, and varying schedules as needed.

What You Bring

As a Radiation Therapist, you will demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of radiotherapy modalities, including the operation and application of treatment equipment, accessories, and protocols necessary for developing and delivering effective patient treatment plans. You are proficient in operating linear accelerators, high dose rate systems, CT simulators, and related equipment, as well as utilizing block manufacturing tools, tattoo devices, and emergency support systems. You applie strong analytical skills to interpret and verify treatment calculations, ensuring accuracy in patient-specific therapy. You maintain a thorough understanding of state and federal regulations to uphold strict safety and compliance standards. You exhibit excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with physicians, team members, and patients, ensuring clear understanding and high-quality care delivery.

Required Qualifications

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of an accredited radiation therapy technology educational program and registration in good standing by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
