Industry Research Agreements Administrator, Senior

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Industry Research Agreements Administrator, Senior based in United States.

This is a senior-level research administration role focused on managing complex agreements funded by industry partners.
You will independently analyze, draft, negotiate, and execute a broad range of sponsored research and clinical agreements while protecting institutional and research interests.
The role sits at the intersection of contract management, legal and regulatory compliance, research operations, budgeting, and stakeholder collaboration.
You will work closely with researchers, legal teams, compliance functions, sponsors, and other internal partners to develop practical solutions to complex contractual requirements.
Your expertise will help balance regulatory obligations, business considerations, research objectives, intellectual property protection, and sponsor expectations.
Beyond contract management, you will provide subject matter expertise, mentor colleagues, develop guidance, and contribute to process improvements across research administration.

Accountabilities
  • Independently manage, analyze, draft, negotiate, and execute complex sponsored project agreements funded by industry partners, including clinical trial agreements, collaboration agreements, investigator-initiated agreements, sponsored research agreements, master agreements, and business associate agreements.
  • Negotiate contractual terms and draft appropriate language to meet institutional and sponsor requirements while mitigating legal and business risks, protecting intellectual property, and maintaining the integrity of research plans.
  • Collaborate with legal, research administration, compliance, risk management, innovation, principal investigators, departmental teams, sponsors, funders, and other stakeholders to resolve contractual issues and achieve mutually satisfactory outcomes.
  • Review and ensure that payment schedules, budgets, reporting requirements, termination provisions, deliverables, and other contractual commitments are complete, practical, and aligned with applicable policies and research objectives.
  • Apply extensive knowledge of institutional policies, public laws, regulations, and applicable guidelines to translate program and research requirements into appropriate contractual terms.
  • Verify required internal approvals, compliance requirements, and documentation associated with subcontracting institutions before agreements are finalized.
  • Serve as a trusted subject matter expert for internal and external stakeholders, providing clear and reliable communication regarding contract requirements, processes, and regulatory obligations.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with Institutional Review Board (IRB), clinical research, compliance, legal, and other internal functions involved in sponsored research agreements.
  • Provide leadership, training, and mentorship on contract administration, negotiation practices, internal procedures, and contractual compliance to Contract Administrators, Contract Coordinators, departmental staff, researchers, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and refine policies, guidance, strategies, standard terms, clauses, templates, and master agreements that support consistent and effective management of industry research agreements.
  • Deliver training through formal and informal sessions, workshops, brown-bag events, research administration meetings, and other educational initiatives.
  • Serve as a resource for study teams and departmental staff, helping them understand and meet their contractual obligations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant research administration policies and procedures and remain proficient with institutional information systems used to manage sponsored projects, research compliance, agreements, and related activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, increase efficiency, reduce costs, and strengthen the quality and consistency of sponsored project administration.
  • Approach complex or ambiguous contractual situations with sound professional judgment and creativity while maintaining compliance and finding practical solutions.
  • Support team objectives by sharing knowledge, assisting colleagues with sponsored project administration issues, and contributing to quality improvement and team-building initiatives.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned in support of research agreement administration.
Requirements
  • Hold a bachelor's degree with at least five years of experience in federal and/or industry contract negotiation, or possess an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Be able to obtain the required institutional signature authority for the applicable contract portfolio within six months of hire.
  • Demonstrate strong experience analyzing, interpreting, drafting, and negotiating complex contractual language and regulatory requirements.
  • Possess the ability to train and mentor others in understanding contractual provisions, negotiation strategies, and agreement administration.
  • Demonstrate excellent analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize complex guidelines, regulations, policies, and contractual requirements into clear and actionable recommendations.
  • Communicate effectively with researchers, administrative teams, legal professionals, funding agencies, sponsors, and other stakeholders, including the ability to explain and uphold regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Demonstrate strong independent judgment, initiative, professionalism, accountability, and a positive approach to resolving complex issues.
  • Have the ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships while handling sensitive interactions with diplomacy and discretion.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to track multiple agreements and provide rapid, accurate status updates.
  • Be comfortable adapting to new electronic systems, evolving processes, and situations where established procedures may not yet exist.
  • Be capable of managing multiple priorities and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate the ability to understand and accurately interpret medical and scientific terminology, concepts, and methodologies.
  • Possess strong negotiation skills and the ability to work with multiple parties to reach practical and mutually satisfactory outcomes.
  • Have a thorough understanding of budgeting principles and procedures relevant to sponsored research agreements.
  • Be able to handle highly confidential information with appropriate discretion and professionalism.
  • Demonstrate a problem-solving mindset and the ability to identify creative approaches that balance compliance requirements with research and business needs.
