Description:

The Turn Mill Supervisor is responsible for leading the Miyano department across all shifts, with a primary focus on employee performance, technical support, process improvement, and operational results.

This role provides direct leadership to Miyano Operators and Setup Technicians, establishes performance expectations, develops team members, and holds employees accountable for quality, productivity, safety, attendance, and Company standards. Unlike a traditional working Lead, this individual is not responsible for routine machine operation or daily production coverage.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Leadership & Employee Management

  • Lead and support Miyano Operators and Setup Technicians across all shifts.
  • Set clear expectations and provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and accountability.
  • Conduct employee performance reviews and identify development and training needs.
  • Address performance, attendance, quality, safety, and conduct concerns and escalate formal corrective action matters to the CNC Production Manager and Human Resources.
  • Maintain consistent communication and expectations across all shifts.
  • Build a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and respectful workplace behavior.

Technical Leadership & Process Improvement

  • Serve as the technical resource for Miyano machining processes, tooling, setups, and troubleshooting.
  • Analyze manufacturing processes to improve cycle time, efficiency, uptime, quality, and process stability.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives and ensure improvements are implemented and sustained.
  • Conduct or support part prove-outs, process validations, tooling evaluations, and manufacturing trials.
  • Troubleshoot complex or recurring machining, tooling, quality, and process issues.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring production concerns.
  • Partner with Engineering, Quality, and Production to improve machining methods and standardize best practices.

Operational Performance

  • Partner with the CNC Production Manager to achieve department goals and KPIs related to scrap, efficiency, uptime, setup performance, quality, and schedule attainment.
  • Review production and quality data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Address barriers impacting output, quality, staffing, or process stability.
  • Provide regular updates to the CNC Production Manager regarding performance, staffing, technical issues, and improvement priorities.
  • Support production planning by identifying capacity, staffing, and technical constraints.

Training & Standardization

  • Develop and maintain standardized processes, work instructions, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure employees are properly trained on approved processes and procedures.
  • Support cross-training and technical development throughout the department.
  • Ensure process changes are communicated and consistently followed across all shifts.

Quality, Safety & 6S

  • Reinforce compliance with quality requirements, routers, inspection procedures, and nonconforming material processes.
  • Partner with Quality to address recurring defects and process variation.
  • Maintain expectations for safety, housekeeping, organization, and 6S practices.
  • Address unsafe conditions or behaviors promptly.

Cross-Functional Support

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Miyano department and the CNC Production Manager.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Production Planning, Maintenance, Materials, and Human Resources as needed.
  • Participate in production, quality, staffing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements:

•5+ years of CNC machining experience, preferably in precision manufacturing required.

•2+ years of previous leadership or supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment required.

•Strong knowledge of Miyano & Citizen Swiss CNC machines, tooling, setups, and troubleshooting strongly preferred.

•Demonstrated ability to coach employees, manage performance, and hold team members accountable.

•Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.

•Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, tooling concepts, blueprint reading, GD&T, and inspection requirements.

•Experience with process improvement and continuous improvement principles.

•CAD or CNC programming experience preferred.

•Strong communication, organization, and decision-making skills.

•Proficient with Microsoft Office and manufacturing ERP systems.

•Ability to work effectively across departments in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

•Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive, solutions-focused attitude while leading through production demands and operational challenges.

•Skilled at building team morale, fostering engagement, and creating a culture of trust, consistency, and high performance.

•Strong emotional intelligence and professionalism when navigating employee relations, conflict resolution, and performance expectations.

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, salaried exempt position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week. Because this role provides leadership and support across three shifts, flexibility in scheduling is required to maintain visibility, communication, and support throughout the department. Workload demands may occasionally require extended hours (45+ hours per week) to meet business, production, or employee needs. Flexibility is provided to support a fair and balanced work environment.
