Job Description
General Purpose
The Part-Time Cleaner (evenings and/or weekends) performs cleaning and sanitation tasks to ensure clean and sanitary environments for workers, patients, and visitors. Custodians deliver superior quality in all that they do while treating others in a professional and friendly manner.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Demonstrate commitment to customer service excellence in all interactions with patients, family members, visitors, and other staff members.
- Responsible for maintaining a clean work environment in assigned areas, which may include patient rooms, offices, bathrooms, and common areas.
- Responsible for the overall condition of the facility, including sanitation, order, and appearance.
- Perform manual work and general physical activities, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, handling materials, moving furniture, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, and/or dusting.
- Ensure that routine housekeeping tasks are performed according to established schedules and procedures.
- Clean assigned areas by washing and sanitizing furnishing, beds, floors, walls, ceilings, doors, windows, glass partitions, and/or any other surfaces that need cleaning with special cleaning solutions and disinfectants to prevent the spread of disease.
- Make beds with clean linen in a prescribed manner.
- Scour and polish sinks, toilets, showers, mirrors, and similar equipment; replenish supplies of soap, towels, and other dispensable items.
- Dust windowsills, blinds, floors, and furniture with dust cloths and the vacuum cleaner.
- Empties and transports waste containers.
- Arrange furniture and equipment in an orderly fashion.
- Monitor building security and safety by performing tasks such as locking doors or checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
- Other work-related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:
- Attention to detail and conscientiousness.
- Ability to perform a variety of routine, unskilled and semi-skilled housekeeping work while maintaining the assigned location(s) clean.
- Ability to use general cleaning equipment as outlined in procedures to ensure proper usage and safety.
- Ability to use general cleaning equipment such as a mop, broom, wet vacuum, duster, pail etc.
- Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components.
- Effective written, spoken, and non-verbal communication.
- Ability to make sound decisions.
- Demonstrate integrity, respect, confidentiality, and discretion.
Education or Formal Training:
- High school degree or equivalent.
- Knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations preferred.
Experience
- Previous housekeeping experience preferred
Working Conditions and Other Conditions of Employment
Working Environment:
This job operates in a fast-paced, professional office environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers. The position may require travel to meetings and branch locations on a regular or intermittent basis. Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. In the health center environment, there is potential for contact with blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases, as well as potential for contact with dissatisfied or unfriendly individuals. There could be interaction with persons who are mentally ill, disabled, elderly and emotionally upset.
Physical Activities:
These are representative of those which must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This is a largely sedentary role but can involve standing or sitting for extended periods of time, bending at the waist, and using hands and fingers to handle and file papers or operate assigned equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Employee may also have to lift 10 to 25 lbs. unassisted.
Conditions of Employment:
- Annual TB, federally required drug screening, and Influenza vaccination or compliance with policy and procedure.
- Required possession of a valid state driver's license.
- Successful candidate must submit to and pass, post-offer drug screen.
