About the Role:

Under the medical direction of the clinic Physician/PA/NP and general direction of the Clinic Manager, the Orthopaedic Assistant is responsible for escorting patients, obtaining and documenting medical information, providing direct patient care and assistance to the physician/PA/NP. He/she also provides support within the clinic as a patient/provider liaison.

Position Responsibility

: • Supports Peninsula Orthopaedic’s vision, mission and values and follows all policies and procedures

• Maintains confidentiality for any and all information, including Protected Health Information (PHI), accessible while performing job duties

• Maintains compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, IT Policy, patient safety standards and all other POA requirements

• Completes patient care responsibilities as assigned, which may include: scheduling and organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam/procedure room, assisting patients with changing into exam gowns, and transferring to exam table, if needed

• Assesses patient’s general condition and collects patient history • Documents health history, activities, medication dispensed/prescribed, etc., in the medical record

• Provides basic patient care as ordered by provider (Physician/Podiatrist/Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner) and assists provider with various procedures

• Provides patient education materials, communicates provider advice/instructions to patient

• Applies and removes casts and splints • Fits patients with braces, boots, and other DME as ordered by provider

• Changes wound dressings • Prepares injections • Removes suture and staples • Obtains lab/x-ray reports • Schedules urgent MRI, CT scans, labs, etc.

• Schedules urgent referrals to other providers

• Cleans and stocks exam rooms • Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines and confidentiality policies • Works effectively with physicians and staff • Conducts his/herself ethically and maintains thorough attention to detail

• Fosters team work • Demonstrates expert communication skills • Possesses expert customer service skills with a focus on problem resolution to complex issues • Manages health information through appropriate and accurate patient data charting • Demonstrates appropriate assessment and assistance techniques • Exercises appropriate use of universal precautions, safe workplace and confidentiality methods

• Other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications: • High School diploma or GED Certificate • Previous experience in a medical office or hospital setting preferred • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), LPN or ATC (equivalent education or experience may be considered) • CPR
