Through personalized outreach, thoughtful application review, and strategic recruitment efforts, this role helps shape an incoming class of students who will thrive at Suffolk University. The counselor will manage a recruitment territory, build meaningful relationships with students and community partners, and contribute to enrollment goals through a combination of travel, data-informed decision making, and student-centered service.

Most importantly, you’d be joining a team that is positive, engaging, and committed to our shared goals. If you’re passionate about helping students, value the importance of our historical mission of access, opportunity, and inclusion; we welcome your application for this position.

What you’ll accomplish in this role:

  • Represent the university both virtually and in-person at college fairs, secondary schools, and community colleges (as needed).
  • Travel and recruit approximately 10-12 weeks between the fall and spring semesters. Conduct virtual and on/off-campus interviews with students and families as requested.
  • Manage a designated recruitment territory and develop strategic outreach plans to increase awareness, applications, and enrollment.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Suffolk University’s mission and our commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Think strategically about your assigned recruitment market and take a creative, data-driven approach to increase enrollment.
  • Holistically and efficiently evaluate first-year applications. This includes issuing admission decisions and rankings for honors consideration or special merit scholarship programs.
  • Counsel applicants, their families, school counselors, and advisors on Suffolk University’s admission policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and implement application generation and yield programs in assigned regions.
  • Assist the Welcome Center in conducting virtual and on-campus information sessions and programming for students and families.
  • Will be assigned additional project and liaison work as needed.

What would make you a successful and qualified candidate:

  • A love of creativity and innovation with a willingness to try new approaches to achieve goals.
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to speak publicly in front of small and large audiences.
  • Being a relationship builder with the ability to engage with prospective applicants, families, transfer advisors, and secondary school counselors.
  • The ability to successfully manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and projects while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
  • Exhibit excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills. You are comfortable with both identifying challenges and providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Proficiency with technology including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CRM systems (preferably Slate), social media, Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams etc.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team on group projects.
  • A positive and team-focused approach to your work with a willingness to go the extra mile.

What is required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Must have at least two years of driving experience and have a valid driver’s license from the U.S. or U.S. Territories. Must submit to an annual driver record check and maintain an acceptable driving record per university and/or insurance carrier requirements; must complete the University driver safety training within 60 days of hire and additional driver training as needed.
  • This position requires the ability and comfort with traveling for recruitment in the fall and spring, often for extensive periods of time. This includes frequent driving in a variety of locations and occasional air travel.
  • Ability and flexibility to work outside regular office hours with some evening and weekend work.
  • This role is not fully remote and requires the ability to be in-office 4 days per week. Additional remote days are evaluated seasonally based on office coverage needs.
