Position Summary

Ski & Snowboard Instructors help create a welcoming, inclusive, and community-oriented learning environment by providing safe, engaging, and encouraging instruction to guests of all ages and ability levels. Instructors may teach skiing, snowboarding, or both depending on qualifications and operational needs while helping guests build confidence, develop skills, and enjoy their experience on the mountain.
Successful employees in this role are positive, dependable, patient, and comfortable working in dynamic outdoor environments with changing weather and snow conditions. This position requires strong communication, professionalism, and the ability to adapt instruction to different learning styles and group needs while maintaining a high standard of safety, guest service, and teamwork. Instructors are expected to contribute to a supportive department culture, maintain familiarity with ski area operations and policies, and help foster a strong sense of community both on and off the snow.
General Responsibilities:
- Teach ski/snowboard skill development both in group and private lesson settings while providing friendly and respectful customer service
- Create and participate in a positive and inclusive workplace.
- Have a working knowledge of:
- Mt. Baker Ski Area mountain policies and procedures
- Familiarity of ski area facilities and services available
- Perform duties as trained
Qualifications:
- Willingness to learn
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must have contemporary ski or snowboard equipment and outer-wear
- Confident skiing/riding ability on beginner terrain as a minimum

Wage & Hour Information:
Starting rate begins at $17.13/hour with increases for experience, merit, tenure and future WA State minimum wage adjustments possible.
This is a seasonal, variable hour position. Hours per week may vary between 5-40+ hours/week. Expected end date for position is April 18, 2027, unless otherwise approved by management.

Requirements:Position Requirements:
- Successful completion of the Instructor training by an authorized Mt. Baker Ski Area trainer
- Employment in lead positions is contingent upon the successful completion and review of a background screening. Applicants listed on the National Sex Offender Registry are not eligible for employment in this position.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work outside in inclement winter weather
- Bending, twisting, lifting and moving items throughout the day
- Ability to lift and move 50 pounds (or more depending on task)
- Standing and or sitting for long periods
- Climbing and descending stairs
- Shoveling and moving snow
- Standing and walking on compact snow and ice
- Perform repetitive tasks as necessary
