Job Description
- Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the project maintenance department.
- Supervise 4–5 mechanics and up to 14 lube technicians, including scheduling, workload assignments, training, and performance management.
- Oversee preventative maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
- Coordinate equipment inspections, repairs, troubleshooting, and scheduled maintenance.
- Monitor the condition and availability of a fleet exceeding 240 pieces of heavy equipment.
- Work closely with project superintendents and operations teams to prioritize equipment needs and minimize downtime.
- Establish and maintain preventative maintenance schedules based on equipment hours, manufacturer recommendations, and project demands.
- Coordinate major repairs, component replacements, and outside vendors when necessary.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, service histories, parts usage, and equipment status.
- Help manage parts inventory and ensure mechanics and lube technicians have the materials necessary to complete repairs.
- Monitor equipment downtime and identify recurring mechanical issues.
- Promote a strong safety culture within the maintenance operation.
- Ensure maintenance activities are performed in accordance with company safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements.
- Assist with equipment utilization, replacement, and repair-versus-replace decisions.
- Communicate equipment status and maintenance concerns with project leadership.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient maintenance operation.

5+ years of heavy equipment maintenance experience, preferably in heavy civil construction, mining, aggregate, or large-scale earthwork.
- Previous experience leading or supervising mechanics and/or lube technicians.
- Strong knowledge of diesel-powered heavy equipment and hydraulic systems.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing equipment such as dozers, excavators, scrapers, articulated trucks, motor graders, loaders, and similar heavy equipment.
- Experience managing preventative maintenance programs for a large equipment fleet.
- Strong understanding of equipment downtime, maintenance scheduling, and fleet availability.
- Ability to prioritize repairs in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work closely with field operations and project management.
- Computer skills and experience with maintenance/fleet management software is preferred.
- Be able to physically lift 50 – 100 LBS.
- Be able to regularly stand for long periods of time, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl
- Specific vision abilities are required, which includes having close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Perform mathematical problems.
- Valid Commercial Driver License- Class A is required.
