Job Type: Part-Time, Hourly, Exempt

Job Location: Chicago, IL

Salary Range: $120-$150 an hour

Duane Deane - Who we are:

For over 50 years, Duane Dean Behavioral Health Center has provided substance use treatment, intervention and prevention services to adults who reside in Kankakee, Iroquois counties and throughout east-central Illinois. Working in collaboration with our management organization, Rincon Family Services, since 2017, we have expanded our services to include violence intervention, workforce development, mental health and welcome center services.

Position Description – What the Role Entails:

The Medical Director provides medical leadership, clinical oversight, and evidence-based care for individuals receiving substance use and behavioral health services. The Medical Director works collaboratively with participants, families’/support systems, providers, and the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, person-centered, and trauma-informed care.

Areas of Accountability - What you will be doing:

Program Compliance & Quality

  • Ensure medical services comply with applicable federal, state, IDHS, SAMHSA, Medicaid, Medicare, CARF, and other regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Ensure all required agency and state training and documentation are completed within established timelines, including requirements applicable within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Participate in quality assurance, clinical audits, accreditation activities, and corrective action initiatives.
  • Support the development and implementation of clinical policies, protocols, and evidence-based practices.
  • Participate in risk management, patient safety, critical incident reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain current knowledge of evidence-based practices in addiction medicine, behavioral health, psychopharmacology, and integrated care.

Credentialing & Billing

  • Maintain all required medical licenses, certifications, registrations, and credentials.
  • Ensure physicians and other prescribing providers are appropriately credentialed and cleared to bill Medicaid, Medicare, and other applicable insurance programs.
  • Maintain an individual National Provider Identifier (NPI) and provide required NPI and credentialing information for billing purposes.
  • Provide and maintain all licenses, certifications, documentation, and other information required for Medicaid, Medicare, and third-party payer enrollment and billing.
  • Collaborate with administrative and billing teams to support accurate and compliant medical billing.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Board certification in Addiction Medicine or Addiction Psychiatry.
  • Experience in a nonprofit or community-based behavioral health organization.
  • Experience with Medicaid, Medicare, IDHS, SAMHSA, CARF, or other behavioral health regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with medication-assisted treatment/MOUD and treatment of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Experience working with underserved and high-risk populations.
  • Experience with First Episode Psychosis or other specialty behavioral health programs.

Duane Dean’s Work Environment – What to expect:

  • The Medical Director must be able to successfully perform essential functions of this job including carry charts to and from their offices/desks, prepare for group activities that may entail moving chairs and/or tables, carrying bags/boxes activity areas.   • This is a collaborative behavioral health environment focused on addiction, mental health, and recovery.

Schedule:

  • This position is anticipated to be part-time, approximately 8–16 hours per week, based on program needs. The schedule may include clinical consultations, participant appointments, multidisciplinary meetings, program oversight, documentation, and administrative/quality activities.
  • The Medical Director may be required to participate in urgent clinical consultation or crisis-related matters in accordance with program requirements and established organizational protocols.

Requirements:

The Knowledge and Expertise that Matters Most - What you bring to the Role:

  • Strong clinical knowledge of addiction medicine, substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, psychopharmacology, and evidence-based behavioral health treatment.
  • Expertise in medication management and MOUD, including the treatment of opioid and other substance use disorders.
  • Sound clinical judgment related to suicide risk, crisis intervention, psychiatric emergencies, medication safety, and complex behavioral health presentations.
  • Knowledge of integrated, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, person-centered, and recovery-oriented care.
  • Working knowledge of applicable Illinois and federal behavioral health requirements, including IDHS, SAMHSA, Medicaid, Medicare, CARF, and other regulatory and contractual standards.
  • Ability to provide medical leadership and consultation within a multidisciplinary behavioral health team.
  • Understanding of clinical quality improvement, risk management, patient safety, documentation, credentialing, and clinical compliance.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, accountability, adaptability, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving individuals and families experiencing substance use, mental health, and other barriers to health and stability, particularly within underserved communities.

Position Qualifications – What is required to Perform the Role:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Current and unrestricted Illinois medical license.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Addiction Medicine, Psychiatry, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or another relevant specialty.
  • Experience providing medical services to individuals with substance use disorders and/or serious mental illness.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based prescribing, psychopharmacology, substance use treatment, and integrated behavioral healthcare.
  • Knowledge of suicide risk assessment, crisis intervention, and medication management.
  • Strong understanding of multidisciplinary and person-centered care.
