Candidates certified, or willing to become certified, in both science and social studies may be considered for a combined full-time position.
The Vision: From Worksheet to Field StationIn many traditional settings, science is a textbook chapter followed by a lab with a known answer. At Mi Escuela Montessori, we invite you to step off the stage and into the role of a collaborative teacher. Here, students don't just learn about science; they do it.
We believe that healthy kids are prepared to learn, and adolescents come alive when their work is real and hands-on. We are seeking a Science Teacher who sees the natural world as the classroom, and who wants to trade "cookbook" labs and rigid pacing guides for genuine questions and student-designed investigations.
Your Creative Canvas: Interdisciplinary & Hands-OnYou won't teach in a silo. You will collaborate with ELA, Math, Spanish and Social Studies teachers to build immersive units where science is how students make sense of their world.
Place-Based Inquiry: Use Central Florida as a living lab: Polk County's lakes and watersheds, native ecosystems, agriculture and the geology of the Bone Valley.
Advanced Pathways: Challenge advanced students with independent research, data analysis and accelerated content that prepares them for high school honors science.
Land & Occupations: Guide students in caring for a school garden or outdoor classroom, connecting biology, earth science and the Montessori adolescent work of the land.
Science Communication: Partner with ELA so students publish lab reports, build science podcasts and present at showcases or science fairs, writing for real audiences.
Targeted Support: Provide intentional interventions and enrichment, grounded in the Florida science standards and the 8th grade Statewide Science Assessment, so every learner is appropriately challenged.
Inclusive Advocacy: Work alongside ESE, Gifted and ESOL specialists to help our neurodiverse and multilingual learners thrive in a dual-language environment.
Certification: Valid Florida Professional Teaching Certificate in Middle Grades General Science (Grades 5–9) or a secondary science subject (Grades 6–12), or ability to obtain.
Bilingualism: While not required, bilingual (Spanish/English) candidates are highly prioritized in our immersion community.
The Facility: In November 2026, we will move into a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility with dedicated collaborative planning blocks, a staff refuel station and a culture of "Grace and Courtesy."
Schedule: Follows the 196-day school calendar (summers and holidays off).
If you believe that a 13-year-old with a good question is a scientist, we want to meet you.
