Summary of Position

The United Healthcare Referral Specialist provides dedicated, high-accuracy administrative support for our patients. By navigating dedicated web portals and managing complex data entry, you ensure that external specialists receive proper authorizations, which directly protects our patients from having their appointments delayed or rescheduled.

Key Responsibilities

  1. This role is highly specialized, focusing specifically on navigating insurance provider networks and completing online data entry workflows.

    1. Portal Management: Access the United Healthcare provider portal daily to input critical, high-accuracy data including patient diagnoses, requested specialty providers, and National Provider Identifiers (NPIs).

    2. Utilize Resources: Rely on internal reference lists and system dropdown tools to match the right codes, facilities, and providers flawlessly.

    3. Protect the Schedule: Secure accurate, valid authorization numbers to prevent patient appointments from being cancelled or rescheduled by external clinics.

    4. Team Integration: Work as a core member of our referral team, maintaining flexibility to assist with scheduling or follow-up tasks if your specific portal volume allows.

Qualifications / Experience:

  1. Required:

    1. 1–2 years of experience dealing specifically with health insurance portals, medical billing data entry, or prior authorizations.

    2. Exceptional data entry skills with an emphasis on accuracy over raw speed.

    3. Highly organized and capable of managing a steady queue of digital tasks autonomously.

  2. Preferred:

    1. Previous experience navigating insurance websites (ideally United Healthcare/Link) is highly preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  1. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  2. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  3. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a remote work environment.

  4. High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Home Office:

All employees must have a HIPAA compliant workplace that is free of any distractions. The workplace must be in a room with a locked door to prevent accidental PHI disclosures. The home office must have high-speed internet and a CCS approved computer with two monitors.

Physical Demand:

Includes but is not limited to vision, hearing, repetitive motion, typing, sedentary, and extended viewing of a work environment computer screen. Reasonable accommodation may be made, with advanced notice, to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions and expectations of the position without compromising patient care.
