Position Status: This position is contingent upon contract award and successful contract transition. Employment is also contingent upon the candidate's ability to satisfy all customer, contract, and security clearance requirements.
If awarded, this position is expected to be covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Compensation, benefits, and working conditions for covered positions will be administered in accordance with the applicable agreement and contract requirements.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
The Master HVAC Mechanic is responsible for overseeing the installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and related mechanical systems supporting a complex federal facility. This position serves as a technical subject matter expert for HVAC operations and works to ensure facility systems operate safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements, manufacturer recommendations, and applicable codes and regulations. The Master HVAC Mechanic supports preventive and corrective maintenance activities, provides technical guidance to maintenance personnel, and helps ensure mission-critical facility operations remain fully functional.
Key responsibilities include:
- Oversee the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of HVAC and refrigeration systems.
- Perform and support preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities on mechanical equipment and building systems.
- Diagnose equipment failures and develop effective repair solutions.
- Monitor HVAC system performance and recommend improvements to increase efficiency, reliability, and equipment lifespan.
- Support the operation and maintenance of chillers, boilers, air handling units, package units, pumps, cooling towers, exhaust systems, and associated equipment.
- Review technical drawings, specifications, maintenance records, and manufacturer documentation.
- Ensure work is performed in accordance with applicable codes, regulations, contract requirements, and industry best practices.
- Support commissioning, testing, balancing, and startup activities.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with operations, engineering, and other support personnel.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and technical documentation.
- Assist with outage planning, emergency response activities, and restoration efforts.
- Promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with all applicable safety requirements.
JOB REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current Master HVAC Mechanic license, certification, or equivalent credential recognized by the applicable jurisdiction.
- Current EPA Section 608 Certification.
- HVAC trade certification or documented technical training in HVAC systems and equipment.
- Evidence of annual continuing education or professional development related to HVAC systems and equipment.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial, industrial, institutional, or government HVAC systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, ventilation, and mechanical building systems.
- Experience supporting preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, technical manuals, and equipment documentation.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening.
Preferred:
- Experience supporting federal government facilities contracts.
- Experience supporting large campus-style, industrial, mission-critical, or training environments.
- Experience supporting central utility plants, chilled water systems, boiler systems, cooling towers, and energy management programs.
- Experience working with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and energy management systems.
- Experience utilizing computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour certification.
- Supervisory, lead mechanic, or team leadership experience.
- Experience supporting commissioning, testing, balancing, and startup activities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments, including mechanical rooms, utility spaces, rooftops, maintenance areas, industrial facilities, and occupied buildings. The incumbent must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb stairs and ladders, and work in elevated, confined, or difficult-to-access spaces as required. The position frequently requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling tools, materials, parts, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Work may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, temperature extremes, noise, dust, vibration, refrigerants, chemicals, moving mechanical equipment, and other operational hazards associated with HVAC and mechanical systems. The incumbent must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hearing protection, eye protection, gloves, respiratory protection, and other safety equipment as required. Occasional evening, weekend, on-call, or extended work hours may be necessary to support operational requirements, preventive maintenance activities, equipment outages, emergency response activities, or contract needs.

The compensation range provided for this position is intended as a general guideline. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, certifications, geographic location, market conditions, and business needs, consistent with applicable laws and contract requirements.

Positions covered by the Service Contract Act (SCA), Davis-Bacon Act (DBA), Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), or other applicable contract requirements will be administered in accordance with those requirements. Compensation, benefits, and work rules for positions covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement will be governed by the applicable agreement.
