We are seeking an ambitious and technically minded Field Application Engineer to join our growing team. This role is ideal for someone with experience in fleet telematics who enjoys solving customer problems, working directly with hardware and software, and growing into a senior customer-facing engineering role.

Key Responsibilities
Customer Support & Technical Engagement
- Serve as a technical resource for customers on telematics devices, fleet integrations, and connected vehicle solutions.
- Support customer onboarding, device configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting activities.
- Assist customers with APIs, portal setup, device provisioning, and integration efforts.
- Participate in customer meetings, field visits, and technical discussions.
- Partner with senior FAEs on strategic customer opportunities and escalations.
Device Testing & Validation
- Execute and document test plans for hardware, firmware, and cloud-connected solutions.
- Validate new features, firmware releases, and customer configurations.
- Track and escalate issues through Jira and collaborate closely with engineering teams.
- Analyze telematics data to diagnose issues and improve product performance.
- Support continuous improvement of testing processes and tools.
Fleet Diagnostics & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve issues involving:
- OBD-II
- J1939
- CAN bus communications
- GPS performance
- Cellular connectivity
- Device provisioning and activation
- Troubleshoot hardware, firmware, and cloud integration issues across customer deployments.
- Assist with field returns, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Support installation best practices and customer deployment activities.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with engineering, product management, sales, support, and operations teams.
- Support sales teams during technical evaluations and proof-of-concept activities.
- Create application notes, test reports, and customer documentation.
- Share knowledge and contribute to team best practices.
Pre- & Post-Sales Support
- Assist customers through evaluation, deployment, and operational phases.
- Gather customer feedback and communicate product enhancement opportunities to internal teams.
- Support field troubleshooting and customer escalations.
- Travel to customer sites domestically and internationally as needed.
Required
- 2–5 years of experience in fleet telematics, connected vehicles, IoT, or related technical fields.
- Experience working with GPS tracking, fleet management, or telematics solutions.
- Working knowledge of:
- OBD-II
- J1939
- CAN bus diagnostics
- Cellular-connected devices
- Experience troubleshooting hardware and software systems.
- Familiarity with LTE and wireless communication technologies.
- Experience using Jira or similar ticketing systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple customer and engineering priorities simultaneously.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed (approximately 10–20%).
- Ability to work onsite in our Kearny Mesa, San Diego office.
Preferred
- Experience with telematics APIs and integrations.
- Familiarity with AT commands, SIM management, and cellular provisioning.
- Experience with scripting or automation tools.
- Exposure to wireless technologies including LTE, LTE-M, Cat-1 bis, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 5G, LoRaWAN, and emerging Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) technologies.
- Experience supporting enterprise customers.
- Familiarity with asset tracking, fleet management, or heavy equipment telematics solutions.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Electronics Engineering Technology, or a related technical field—or equivalent practical experience.
