Fiber Splicer Supervisor

Position Summary

The Fiber Splicer Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily fiber splicing operations, ensuring projects are completed safely, accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with customer and company standards. This position provides direct leadership to Fiber Splicers and field personnel while coordinating schedules, production, quality, documentation, materials, and project priorities.

The Fiber Splicer Supervisor serves as a key point of contact between field crews, project management, construction teams, and customers to ensure work is completed on schedule and meets required specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide daily direction to Fiber Splicers and other assigned field personnel.
  • Coordinate daily work assignments, schedules, priorities, and crew deployment based on project needs.
  • Oversee fiber optic splicing, testing, troubleshooting, restoration, and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure fiber splicing is completed according to customer specifications, engineering prints, industry standards, and company procedures.
  • Review splice packages, prints, schematics, OTDR results, test documentation, and other required project records for accuracy and completeness.
  • Monitor production and project progress to ensure deadlines and customer commitments are met.
  • Perform or assist with complex fiber splicing, troubleshooting, testing, and emergency restoration when necessary.
  • Identify and resolve field issues that may impact production, quality, safety, or project timelines.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards and customer requirements are met.
  • Ensure crews have the appropriate tools, equipment, materials, and information necessary to complete assigned work.
  • Coordinate with Construction Managers, Project Managers, Coordinators, and other departments regarding project status, scheduling, and field issues.
  • Maintain accurate production records, reports, documentation, and project updates.
  • Provide training, coaching, and technical guidance to Fiber Splicers.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new team members.
  • Monitor employee performance and address performance or attendance concerns in accordance with company procedures.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Ensure employees follow all company safety policies, customer requirements, and applicable OSHA regulations.
  • Participate in safety meetings, job-site inspections, and incident investigations as required.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, employees, and other project stakeholders.
  • Support emergency outages and restoration activities as needed.
  • Travel between job sites and markets as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous fiber optic splicing experience required.
  • Previous supervisory, lead, or crew leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of fiber optic construction, splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and restoration.
  • Experience reading fiber prints, splice diagrams, schematics, and construction documentation.
  • Experience using fusion splicing equipment, OTDRs, power meters, and other fiber testing equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot fiber-related issues and provide technical direction to field personnel.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple crews, projects, and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to complete electronic documentation and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively managing and supporting a field team.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
  • Must be able to travel and work varying schedules based on project and customer needs.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in field environments for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry tools, equipment, and materials associated with fiber splicing operations.
  • Ability to work around active construction sites, utility infrastructure, traffic, and other field conditions.
  • Must be able to safely operate required tools and equipment.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position. Work schedules may vary based on operational and customer needs. Evening, weekend, overtime, emergency restoration, and on-call work may be required.

Travel

Travel to job sites and other company or customer locations may be required. The amount of travel will vary based on assigned projects and market needs.
